Split Stay Questions

Hi,

We are doing a split stay for our holiday in March - 5 nights at POR and 2 nights at WL. Both reservations include DDP. I've done lots of reading on here and I think I've got this figured out, but I have just a few questions to confirm our plans:

1. Our DDP credits attached to our first reservation must be used before 11:59 pm on the day we check out - correct? I've been reading on here about some problems with the credits - would it be best to try and use them before we check in to the second resort?

2. On the day we check out of the first resort, we'd still like to hit a park at rope drop. Can we just check out early, leave our bags with bell services for transfer, and hit the park, waiting to check in to the 2nd resort until mid-/late- afternoon?

3. We've purchased MM. Will it work for the duration of our holiday? Do I need to do anything special to link it with both resort stays?

4. I understand we will receive 2 sets of Magic Bands but they will work interchangeably - correct? We have 6 day park tickets attached to our first reservation - there shouldn't be any problem using them on the transition day?

5. Just a silly question - will we receive a 2nd set of refillable mugs when we activate the DDP at our second resort? Not a big deal, but nice to have them to bring home.

1. Correct. I think the credit issue is few and far between in general. It just feels like a lot from the forums.

2. Yes. You can request the bags be delivered to your second resort. It's been free, but there is a rumor that it will now be a small fee for the transfer. You can utilize express check out - you don't need to visit or do anything special and the resort will just settle your bill with the card on file and send you a statement via email.

3. It's attached for a set number of days. You'll be fine as long as it's linked to your MDE.

4. You can use either set.

5. Yes. You'll get mugs for each DDP set you have.

Is there anyone who can confirm this rumor? We've done split stays before and it has been great. I frankly think its kind of cruddy for them to charge to move from one disney resort to another. It won't change our planning but may raise my righteous indignation at getting nickel and dimed.

@sportel Would you be willing to offer any insight on how the transfer process worked and how successful you were with the double DDP? We're going in December and I'm trying to figure it all out. We'll be at SSR for 2 nights and the Poly for 3. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Second trip, first time to rent DVC points. I've lost my mind. Lol!

Just back from a split stay. We moved our own luggage because we had cars, but when bell services at AoA came up with a luggage cart to help us, they did offer to move the luggage for free.

Magicbands are interchangeable for park admission, Fastpass, and charging privileges, but I'm pretty sure you have to pick a dedicated set for opening your resort room door. Even with online check in, they always want to play with the bands that I'll be using as room keys to make sure they'll work.

It worked out well for us. They transferred our bags without any mention of a fee. As for DDP, we didn't have any issues. We did make sure we used up all of our credits from our first stay by midnight of the day we checked out, then started with the "new" DDP the next day. The only small hiccup was that we couldn't get our second set of mugs until after we had used up all of our first credits. But that really wasn't a big issue. Overall I was relieved with how easy it was!
