Split stay, Owners Locker, and getting around

We are attempting our first DVC split stay next week and won't have a car. We are staying at BLT then switching Sunday to BWV. Our plan is to go to SWW at DHS very early on Sunday. Still tossing around how we want to make the move. I thought about getting a rental Saturday afternoon just for one day to move all our stuff ourselves, but after reading about the difficulty of parking at both BLT and BWV, I'm thinking perhaps a taxi would be better. We won't have a ton of stuff, just two smallish carryon bags and our (competely full) Owner's Locker. Because we want to be to DHS by 7am, I don't think we want to attempt riding the bus and having Bell Services move our things. What do those of you with split stay experience think is best?

We really don't find the parking at BWV too bad when loading and unloading. However, I would just let bell services handle the transfer, even if you choose to take a cab to DHS. I would ask when the first buses start running, though. If you are on the first bus from BLT to DHS, then you should get there very quickly. If you bring your luggage with the cab to BWV, you will still need to fill out the paperwork with bell services at BWV, and perhaps even to the front desk to check in (although theres 98% possibility that your room will not be ready that early anyway). Bell services will be available at all hours at BLT. Just have them come to your room early (give them a call 30 minutes or so before), and they will handle the paperwork for the transfer and take your luggage and OL for you. Once you get back to BWV and are in your room, simply call down, and they will deliver your luggage.

I just think that it will take less time for you that morning simply to have bell services handle it for you.

I agree with MsTessP. Consider having bell services take you things to BWV. Transporting a heavy full OL in a cab would be awkward. Once you get there, unloading and checking in at BWV bell services will be time consuming. Just keep in mind that your OL and other things may not be available until after 3. Then you can just take a cab from BLT to HS, since you need to be there that early.

On move day:
Call Bell Services and have them come pick-up your luggage and refrigerated items. Be sure to inform them that you have items to keep cold.
Tell them where you are transferring too.
Check-in to your new resort.
Go do whatever you want that day.
After getting your room text and you are back in it (items are not at your new resort until 2 - 4 PM), call Bell Services to have the items delivered to your room.
NOTE: You must be in the room for the pick-up and delivery. Tips expected.
If you want to go straight to the parks and not go to the resort first to check-in and not get the text, yes you can do that.

Use a black marker to write your name on any food item bags to be transferred along with keep refrigerated.
Do not flip the card on your OL.
If you need extra ties for the OL lid, bell services has some.

we used a taxi for split stay, drop your bags at new resort bell services and go about your day. when ever you decide to check into new room they'll bring your items up. sweet and simple. cab fare from one resort to another varies depending on traffic. but should be less than $30.00 with tip.

I don't understand why people pay for a taxi when they can transfer for free?

I agree - the sweet and simple way to do it is to let Bell Service transfer. Most especially with an Owners locker.

Because when BS transfers your items won't be available until after official checkin time. If you don't want that lag, and/or you want to KNOW it's all there, you don't let BS transfer your stuff for you.

We have done split stay moves a bunch of different ways.

Let Bell move your stuff. We got our luggage at about 6pm moving BLT to AKV and cut dinner reservations close, and we had our car but were lazy,

Drive it over and leave stuff in the car while in parks. Worked great but not good for food.

Rent a car and more it over. I got in a bunch of trouble on this one. Who knew that DW has a different idea of what a small cheap rental is! (A Suburban is a small cheap rental right?)

Transferred items are usually transferred from the old resort at 1:00 at the new resort between 3:00 and 4:00. Bell Services can deliver as soon as your new room and you are ready.
