We are going in Aug for 8 nights and currently booked at POR.
Since this is our first time for Orlando, we plan to be go outside WDW for 3 days. One thing that we've talked about is a split stay, may be spend a couple of nights in WL and then move to POR or even off-site for the days that we are going outside of WDW.
Spending the whole time in WL is too much for us. However, packing up and re-settling in is also a hassle. Staying on-site during our off days could also give us some more flexibility in spending more time in WDW.
What do you all think?

3 days in the lodge is never enough, plenty of things to do, take boat rides use the pool explore the grounds take a boat to the camp grounds for even mopre things to do. Nothing beats staying on site:thumbsup2

Well I am not too much help since I would be THRILLED to spend 8 days at WDW alone and never have any reason to venture off-site....

But, as for split stay, I did one and I think they are fun! I would plan to have you "best" resort last... so if you would split, do POR first, end at WL. I guess you could do off-site 1st then, on-site, but I would definitely NOT do it the other way around. And I would only move once in 8 days.

POR was beautiful, and I am dying to stay at WL, so I am sure you can't go wrong with whatever you choose!

Who are you traveling with? Also, just know that if you take the parks at an easy pace and also enjoy some of the other things WDW has to offer, you can easily fill 8 days (esp. if traveling with kids)... I just mention that since you said it is your first time, and most people who haven't been wonder what in the world could you do for EIGHT days??? Plenty... If you want to do off site things because you WANT to, that's fine, but just don't think you HAVE to b/c there isn't enough to do at WDW.

Ok, this is rambling but if I were you I would split stay POR and WL... get however many WDW days tix you think you want (you can always add more days once you are there)... see how it's going and then if you feel like going off-site, get those tix when you get there. (Also, much more cost effective to stay at WDW, since days 5-8 of the tickets are practically free.)

Enjoy your trip!!!

If you want to hotel hop if you get bored at a hotel for that long go for it....but stay within WDW!!! Its not the same if you stay in a hotel outside of "the world". Been there, done that....and regretted it!! lol

Enjoy your trip!!!! :goodvibes

We do split-stays and it's really not so hard. One thing to think about is that it is easier to move "up" than move "down." WL is a beautiful resort, and IMO it is worth moving once in order to stay there for part of your trip.

Have a great trip!

I just came back from doing a split stay, and quite honestly, I'll never do it again. I was glad that I did for the fact they gave us a horrible studio w/savanna view at AKV and I was glad to be able to finally stay at OKW. But....the part I really thought was a hassle was that I was only staying 3 nights at AKV and thought it would be a waste to unpack so we lived out of suitcases. Did not care for that at all. We used a cab to transfer us to OKW and that was simple, just cost us some valuable Disney time. Many people like doing split stays and I was excited about trying it. Just never again for us.:sad2:
