Split stay on Oahu - Aulani and ? Suggestions please

For the fireworks on Friday nights, you can really see them from most anywhere on Waikiki beach.

We are doing 3 nights in Maui followed by 6 at Aulani. The Maui to HNL flights were like $79/person.

I avoid Honolulu if at all possible. Love the Northshore and the west side. Our first trip we stayed on the Northshore near sunset beach and loved it, although the beach itself was amazingly beautiful but the surf was too rough to swim in it in Feb. Last time we stayed in Waimanalo and would highly recommend it. Had a vrbo that was a 3 min walk to the most amazing beach. A very different experience from Aulani, but we loved it just as much.

I was going to mention this. Depending on what time of year you're going, you have to know what the surf is going to be like. Any time but summer, you cannot swim on the north shore beaches at all. East side is generally ok, west side can get big as well. Waikiki is good year round. However, with waikiki you have to watch the calendar - jellyfish come out about 10 days after the full moon. Every month. No exceptions. Some east and west beaches are bothered, but south is the worst.

I visited Waikiki Beach in 2005 and stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It is the best Hilton resort I have ever stayed at. There is so much to do at the resort you wouldn't even need a rental car. We are considering staying there for 1/2 of our stay to save money. The Hilton Hawaiian Village is right on the beach, there are tons of awesome pools with waterslides! And you are across the street from the public bus pick up. You can easily use the bus if you buy a pass to get around to the different toursity areas. There are tons of shops, a great spa, restaurants, etc. right at the resort so really you never need to leave! I loved it and can not wait to return

We are going in less than two weeks and are staying in Maui for the first four nights. We have been to Aulani once before but have never been to Maui. When I checked, it was only $85 for the flight to Oahu so we opted to try something totally new. We are getting very excited!

we golfed up at Turtle Bay a couple of days on our trip. It is soooo beautiful up there.
