Split stay: Offsite at beginning,middle or end of trip?

Hi! I thought I saw something that said when it's best to stay offsite for a split stay, only I can't find it. For purposes of booking ADR's and FP's, when is the best time to do a split stay with part of the stay offsite (Universal resort) and the rest of the trip at the WDW resort? Is it better to stay offsite at the beginning, middle, or tail end of the trip? Any pros or cons appreciated. FWIW: I've booked a split stay with a 2 day stay offsite at Universal Royal Pacific resort right in the middle of my 8 day WDW trip. First half of stay is at the Poly, 2nd half at Boardwalk. This is our first split stay and we are pretty flexible people. Just curious for next time.

If you change hotels at Disney, won't they transfer your luggage for you? That would save you the effort/time.
