I have a conference to attend on-site at WDW, but not in a WDW resort. My boss is paying for the night before (since the conference starts at 8 am and I'm flying from CA) and is allowing me to stay an extra day (on my dime).

Question: Has anyone booked a resort day before, then switched to the hotel for a conference, then the day after the conference back at a resort hotel? Is that allowed for reservations/FP? I don't want to do anything against the rules.

I'm asking out of sheer ignorance. I've never been to a conference so far away and would love to have two days with the Mouse.

It sounds like you would be booking a one night resort reservation before your conference and another one night reservation afterwards. You would be booking two separate resort reservations which is fine and has been done by many others (e.g. visit DW first, go on a cruise, then come back to DW for a few days before heading home). Buy your park ticket to cover all the days you plan to go to the parks because your park ticket is good for 14 days from first use.

As far as FP, there are two stickies at the top of the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board with a wealth of information.

you can't do your fast passes until you get your tickets - or put the order in for them (this is using disneyworld website - not the cheaper ones offsite)

Question: Where is the conference being held, if not in one of the WDW resorts?
After you get all three reservations, call the reservations center, and ask for a "Continuing Reservation" placed on all three reservations with the other two reservation numbers. Make sure you checkout of one resort before checking into the next one.
Disney will move your luggage for you:
On move day:
Call Bell Services and have them come pick-up your luggage and refrigerated items. Be sure to inform them that you have items to keep cold.
Tell them where you are transferring too.
Check-in to your new resort.
Go do whatever you want that day.
After getting your room text and you are back in it (items are not at your new resort until 2 - 4 PM), call Bell Services to have the items delivered to your room.
NOTE: You must be in the room for the pick-up and delivery. Tips expected.
If you want to go straight to the parks and not go to the resort first to check-in and not get the text, yes you can do that.

Not at a WDW resort, unfortunately. However...just learned that I can stay at the All-Stars for less expensive, so I'm trying to pitch that to the boss. I'll foot the Uber/taxi bill in the morning for the ride to the conference if it gives me more Disney time!
