Split stay and room charges

DH and I are arriving late-ish and will be staying at POFQ. The next day, we'll move to BC for the remainder of our trip. My question is at what point do charges "switch" to the second resort on a split stay? I intend to pay as much as possible with gift cards. I know we will charge stuff to our MBs the next day when we go to a park. Will those charges be on our POFQ room or the BC room? I'm thinking POFQ, but I'm hoping not. I don't want to have to waste time going back over there to pay off room charges...

I would say when you check out of one place, you are done there. You have a final statement.
When you check in to the other, your new charging place is set up. You can check in early at the next place even if room not ready, to have that set up.
If you are going to the desk to use gift cards at the first place, they can verify that.

The thing is you can actually continue charging to your room on check-out day until midnight. But maybe it automatically switches over once I check in to BC?

The key here is checking into resort #2. Checking out of resort #1does not end charging privileges. There's been plenty of trips where we check out but have a late flight and we've always still been able to charge using our MBs. There's another charge on our credit card the next day.

That makes sense. So OP should check in at 2nd resort which they can do super early. We do split stays and charging, and never had an issue. But, we are always checked in at 2nd resort before we do anything else, even if room not ready.

Also, I believe You can select NO Charging Privileges at the first resort if you want, if you are not planning on charging out and about that day. They always ask at check in if I want this and even if I want everyone to have that privilege or not. So, alternatively you could have just your band for charging on the first day, and then at 2nd resort pick everyone and use one of those bands for the 2nd day if you are worried about it?? Does that all sound right?

That's an interesting idea - turn off charging for resort #1...I'll just make sure to check in with resort #2 as early as possible.

This of course is only an issue because you want to use gift cards. If you were using a cc it would just automatically charge.

Yep. Just don't set up the room charge at pofq. Or just don't utilize it.

Just use the gift cards to pay directly. If you're arriving late what are you spending, anyway?

And I think that doing online checkin for second resort sets up the room charge so you can just go on with your day.

Can stop in at the front desk of pofq for the checkout process and close out the charge account there on your way out.

Exactly...I have more than enough GCs to use so I want to charge as little as possible to our CC.

Maybe a snack and then breakfast for sure. But you are right - I can use the GCs there. However, I don't want to take the GCs into the parks the next day (some have a large amount of money on them). And the park purchases are really what I'm thinking about...do they go to POFQ bill or BC? Ultimately, I guess I can ask once I get there.

We actually switched resorts from the PORS to the AKL and we encountered a weird glitch: charging privileges were enabled for both stay, we were actually able to charge after checking-out of our first resort (as other pointed out on this thread). However, at one point, charging privileges were disabled on our bands, and we had to get back to the CL concierge to have them fix that. Of course we noticed this while at a restaurant in EPCOT, hopefully we had a credit card (although I'm sure they have a way to charge the folio if something fails with the MB).

Next time we'll do a split stay, we will make sure charging privileges are still enabled on our bands after checking in (and carry a CC just in case).

We had a similar problem between Contemporary and Poly. We checked out of Contemporary, then went to Wilderness Lodge for lunch. Our magic bands didn't work for charging. We had not physically checked into Poly yet but we had done online checkin. The manager at Whispering Canyon kindly called the Contemporary and got the lunch charged to our credit card, but it took a little while (they didn't tell us what was going on right away, else I would've just handed the server a credit card!). When we got to Poly, the CL CM at the concierge desk said it shouldn't have happened that way. She wasn't exactly sure what occurred but fixed it so that the rest of our day and trip, charges went to the Poly. It was a minor glitch in the scheme of things but we will remember it next time and have back-up payment on hand if necessary.

If you don't set up room charging at the first resort they can't go to it. So when you get there tell them you don't want it. And/or do a checkout physically and have them closenit out entirely.

Alas...I'm not sure what you would do with the GCs. Even if you stopped by BC you might not want to stash them with Bell. So I'm not sure there's much to be done about carrying them that first full day.

Good point. My luggage has a TSA lock on it; shouldn't that be good enough?

This hasn't been my experience. We've been checked out that morning and charging privileges ended at that time.

We've done this multiple times when we've had a late flight home, with the last time being our last trip in May. Checked out in the AM with a zero balance, a charge was made on our CC around 3:30AM on check out day for what we had charged during the week. Went to MK for the day using our MBs to charge meals, snacks, etc. A new charge was run on our CC for that stuff around 3:00AM the next day.

Yep, pain in the neck. We had dinner on our checkout day but forgot to bring our gift card with us. Had to charge it back to the first room instead of the new room.(we were already checked in to the new room but we're still using dining credits from Resort #1)

Next day I had to contact Resort #1 for the CC charges to be refunded and the gift card applied. Next time - Carry the gift card on changeover day!!!

Also, u can only check room charges on the app until midnight on your check out day. You do not get any emails / notifications of additional charges afterwards. Not even the next day. You have to monitor your CC statement or call far an updated receipt.

I was not too happy about that. But they were able to help me over the phone. They refunded my CC charge and applied my gift card.

Also, I checked out of SSR on Sunday and went back to SSR on Monday to deal with some stuff. Front desk told me they couldn't refund my CC and switch it to the gift card after midnight on checkout day. All had to be done over the phone by billing (number is on the receipt emailed to you). They did tell me that resort #2 could show me my room charges from resort #1 (although I don't know if they can do anything more than pulling it up)
