If we are staying at POR for three days then moving to SSR for 7 days...If we get a 10 day park hopper, how does SSR know we have those days left? Can we get them put on our room key?

You can purchase a 10 day hopper. It will be a separate ticket from your room key. If you do a split stay you also will have to purchase separate dining plans if you were planning on eating on the dinning plan.

The hopper and the room key will be different passes but it really isn't too difficult to do.

We have not done so but I am told that guest services (concierge desk) at the resorts can transfer your park tickets to your new room key. They will know by scanning the ticket and the database will tell them how many days are left. Otherwise you keep the original park tickets even if it is on your POR room keys - they'll still be good for park admission.

We just did this.

Our tickets were on our Yacht Club keys and then the concierge at WL put them on our WL keys for us so we wouldn't have to carry two sets of room keys. It took all of 5 minutes.

Agreed. We did the same thing in March. When we checked in to the YC, the remaining tickets from our AKL stay were moved from those room keys to the YC room keys. Very quick and easy and avoids having to carry two sets of room keys around.
