Hi all! I haven't gotten the DDP in years and have never gotten the DxDDP. But DH and I are heading down in the fall for Food & Wine and we have a split stay where the first night we are staying at BLT and then we move to PVB for 5 nights. I am now toying with the idea of getting the DxDDP for just the first night, and I want your opinions on whether this makes good financial sense.

We check into BLT on 10/31 and get our refillable mugs (that we would purchase anyway and should be good for 14 days), We go to an early-ish dinner at 'Ohana around 3:30pm or so, before heading to the MK for MNSSHP. The next day we move over to PVB and have breakfast at Kona and then go to EPCOT for F & W and have dinner at Teppan Edo. Lunch will be snacks around the WS.

I put our plans into an online calculator and this is what it says:

Using no plan: $298.18

Using Deluxe Dining Plan

$243.58 (Savings: $54.60)
Entitlements Remaining: 0

I would actually be saving slightly more because I would still get the DVC price for the plan which is $103.57 pp/night.

Am I missing something? My other option would be to head to the MK earlier so we could check-in for the party early and then eat in the castle. Would that make more sense? If we did that then we'd skip Kona breakfast the next morning.

The rest of the trip we'd be paying OOP using AP/DVC discounts where available.

Thanks!

You say it's dh and I is there a kid also that comes to the price of 243.58 ?

Well 54.60 save is 54.60 extra in your pocket. Did you figure your discount for dvc and annual pass for that day?
Even if you didn't it wouldn't be a savings of 54.60.

I don't know where that amount came from. I assume it's the updated amount of the DxDdp. It's just DH and me.

We did this and paid for the DxDP for our first night at POP and then no DP for the rest at SSR. It worked out great for us, the first night we ate at Yachtsman and then the second we ate dinner at Be Our Guest. Honestly, the DP paid for itself after Yachtsman! We had 4 snacks (2 each) to spread out between the two days (all credits good until midnight of the checkout day) and then our mugs were good for the entire trip (the machine actually said that they were good until sometime in January and we checked in on 12/19

The new price is 106.68 a person so 213.36 for 2 people for one night. But as you know DVC has locked in the old price for the whole year at 103.57 a person is 207.14 for 2 people for deluxe

This is what I got your paying 103.57 a person. So ohana is 45.80 there's a 10 percent annual pass discount so you would of paid 41.22 for ohana.

Kona is your cheapest meal meal should be around 26 dollars if you order the most expensive. I'm guessing you get a side with your entree. There's a 20 percent annual pass discount so that's a 5.20 discount which comes to 20.80.

Teppan edo this is where you make the $$ no discount for dinner. If you order all the expensive things it comes to 63 dollars.

So you got 41.22 plus 20.80 plus 63 equals is 125.02. Plus you have your two snacks your going to be at Epcot get the funnel cake at 7 dollars. We will say your other one is 5 dollars so 12 dollars for snack. Than you have your refillable mugs. I'm guessing mugs is 15 dollars.
So I got 152.02 a person so 304.04 for both of you. Your paying 207.14.
So a savings of 96.90 if my math is right.

I did something similar for my trip in March 2016. Stayed two nights at Pop and got the Deluxe plan. I really enjoyed using it at places where we could get apps too - especially since we typically get the regular Plan so no apps. That would be the only thing about using it at Ohana/CRT. I did use mine at Ohana (because its a must do for us) but must say, it was lots of fun ordering apps too everywhere else.

With F&W, your snacks have even more value since u can use them at the booths and should easily get $6-7 in value for each.

Awesome! Thanks :-)

Wow! Thanks for figuring out all the math for me! I was doing it the lazy way and hadn't really figured out the discounts…I'm going to have to print out a list of which ones I can use and where. Sounds like it will be a good deal for us :-)

Ooohhh…I like the idea of getting apps. I assume that since 'Ohana is a fixed menu that doesn't make a difference there? I've never had dinner here. What do you think about Teppan Edo? I picked that because I think DH will like it but I'm open to suggestions…perhaps a better way to use that last credit. Thanks :-)

Teppen edo is a great way to use a credit. The only thing I will change is kona since it doesn't cost much. Go some place else for breakfast where you will get more bang for that credit. Than go to kona on another day.

Thanks! Any suggestions?

Since your going to Epcot akershus.
In Norway.

Or chefs mickeys since you will be at bay lake towers that morning.

Or 1900 park fare in grand Floridian

I agree - especially since you don't get apps for breakfast, you might as well do something that would cost too much OOP.

On Deluxe, I would say just avoid the buffets since you would get the same thing on the regular DDP. Go try places with apps that sound really good. Teppan Edo was a delicious meal. Both the tempura and the ribs would be appealing to me as apps. I also liked Chefs de France.
