DH and I are heading to DL for the first time just before Easter. DH has a conference there, and I'm along for the ride. We like to split plates when we go out on dates (we'll order one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert and then split), but I read on a thread here about a split plate charge of $12 at Blue Bayou. Just wondering if other restaurants have a similar charge, and if you have to choose this option if you split a plate (the Blue Bayou option gave you two portions of salad and sides with the one entree-- we'd like to jsut get one portion of salad and sides and split it). We've got reservations at Blue Bayou and Napa Rose (we also have the WOC package at Ariel's Grotto, but I know we won't be able to split for that!). Thanks for any input. --Katie

Some of the sit down restaurants will charge a small fee for split plates.....most we encountered was $4.00 & I don't remember where that was.

Blue Bayou used to charge the smaller fee, but with the popularity & people going in & sharing meals, they've upped the amount in hoping to stop people from doing that. I'm not sure you can get away from that fee by requesting just one portion of each thing.....wouldn't hurt to ask......but they may still charge you the $12. Some of the split plates really do just split the portions between 2 people, but will plate them separately.....so this may be the case here.

At Napa, I'm not sure how they handle it. :confused3

WoC Dining packages, as you said........is a no.....you'll need to pay for each person dining to get the FP's for the show.

I know at the Blue Bayou, if you ask for an extra plate, they won't charge you. But if you say your spliting it they will, so just ask for an extra plate and you split it yourself, they won't charge. You won't get the extra side or salad.

Yep ~ let your server *BB* know that your "sharing" the meal and will do the splitting yourselves :)

Just don't mention it to them....but yes, there is a hefty split plate charge (last time I was there [about a year ago], I think it was $8.

So, order the appetizer and the meal and tell the server to bring the them together so that each of you have your own plate :)

BB no longer serves appetizers that you order from the menu, just your choice of gumbo or salad that comes with your entree.

The reason it is hefty (now $12) is because each diner gets their own sides and choice of gumbo or salad. If you just split it yourself without paying that charge, then you have to split those items as well (less food). You can just ask them to bring you a separate plate though, as others have mentioned.

Excellent information... my kids and I were looking at the menu yesterday and looking at the 12$ charge.. we didn't even think about "sharing" and not splitting. The meals were so big last time we were there, so sharing would be a great idea.:thumbsup2
