Split Plate charge at Blue Bayou

I wanted to get feedback from those who've recently done the split plate option at BB. I finally talked my DH into splitting a plate with me when we where there back in October.

However, when we told the waiter that we were going to do a split plate, we said we both wanted the salad. He told us the split plate only covered the main entree, and we would only get one salad, on one plate. We then said, fine, we'll buy one more side salad, to which he replied, we don't sell the salad seperatly!

I told him that I knew of others who recieved two salads with the split plate, and he said it was a mistake, that they should have only recieved one.

It was obvious he wasn't going to budge, so we said forget it, and got two entrees.

We are going to go back to the BB in April. I would really like to do the split plate, as last time we went, I didn't even finish half of my entree. For those who have been recently and did the split plate, did you each get a salad or soup?

When dh and I went to BB in November we split our meal, but we were each given the full amount each when it came to our soup/salad, and side dishes. I'm pretty sure that's why they have the extra charge.

I've had it happen both ways. In December though, we each received a salad. On another thread about this, the majority of the people had been receiving a salad or soup each. I wish they would have more salad offerings on their menu. Years ago they had a wonderful salad that I would go there for. I thought it was strange they wouldn't let you buy a separate side salad, it couldn't have been that difficult to do.

We went in Oct and each got our own soup and sides. Dh & i split plated a monte cristo. Dh opted for their french onion soup, while I got the gumbo. In our case, we each got our own plate/bowl of everything but got half of the sandwhich on each of our plates.

"Could you please ask your manager?" if said politely is always an acceptable and often useful way to get a waiter to reconsider a hardline stance on something. The idea that they do not offer the option of buying a side salad is pretty odd to me and I would be inclined to think he was simply mistaken.

I had to laugh out loud at this, cause that is exactly what I would usually do, but my DH is always embarrased when I do this!! Especially in restaurants, he's afraid of what they do to our food in the kitchen!

So I didn't want to push it and embarrass him since we were on vacation, so I just ordered by own entree. But for this next trip, I'm planning to show him this thread and get him to agree in advance that I can ask for the manager! I'm sure when I show this to him this will be his reaction:
