I understand there is a split plate charge at BB and was thinking of doing that this year for DD and I. When we ate there last year neither of us could finish our meals. So my question is if you do this, do you split the sides too or do you each get your own? Just wondering incase she doesn't want the same side as I do. I understand you split the main entree. Just wondering, since we want to try dessert there this year since there was no way it was happening last year. TIA!

I actually just read about splitting plates at the BB on this site - and am definitely doing that from now on! We can never finish our meals either!

Anyway, from what I read you still each get your own starter and you still choose individually 2 sides. The meal itself is split in the kitchen, and they are generally generous with portions.

Sounds like a much better plan in my book too! I can finally try the Flying Dutchman cookie dessert!

BTW the split plate charge is only $4.

Thanks so much for that info, she will be happy about that. I did see on here also what the charge was, and you can't beat that. I know she wants to try that dessert as well and I want to try the Trio of Creme Brulee, I just love creme brulee.

Our meal was slightly different in that the portobello dish already comes with a spinach side. But they said we could order another side, and we asked for the potatoes. They brought out our two dishes (2 smallish portobello caps EACH) and couscous and spinach on both plates, plus a whole plate of the potatoes. Very generous.

So generous I asked the server if they knew we were splitting! She said yes, and talked in detail about how generous they like to be and how it's a visual thing, how full the plates are (though she did say the plates for the split plate are smaller than the normal plates). You should also both get salads or soup, whichever you choose.

But if, by chance, you ONLY want the dessert, our server told me it was totally OK to do that kind of meal, too. That they are there to serve you, not dictate what you want to eat. :goodvibes

I split the prime rib with DS11 when we went to Blue Bayou for a late lunch on Mother's Day. We each got salads and sides. No way could I have eaten the full meal. I thinking splitting made it a pretty good deal. I was still too full to try dessert! Maybe if it had been dinner I'd have had enough room. Next time!
