Split a stay in advance?

I am approaching a 7 month window. I have a single 8 day reservation at vgf I think I want to do a split stay (based on availability) and switch half the stay to the poly. Should I call member services and have them make my VGF stay 2 4 day stays so I can try to modify the first one at the 7 month window?

Then, if no switch occurs, link the 2 VGF stays together later.
Under the impression that if I link them now you have to call MS to change them.

At this point, they can not split your reservation into 2 if you booked at the 11 month window without there still being availability.

The split has to be booked that way from the beginning, If you have any nights at beginning or end still there, and you have the points, book them, and adjust the original online.

Or give MS a call and ask them to do it.
