Just came back from a week in Orlando, and noticed they were tearing down the Splendid China entrance. We met a British couple who said they heard back home that Disney bought the land, but we found it hard to believe as Disney has their own land. We figured it was probably some builder going to make new homes in there. Has anyone heard what Splendid China will become?

This is the ad for it. Its closed now, but right off of 192 about 2 miles from the maingate of the Magic Kingdom, which leads me to believe new housing will be going in as there are so many areas that are building new homes. I asked a realtor there, but she had no info. Was wondering if anyone here knew what was going into this huge area next.

Disney did not buy Splendid China's land. I think whenever anything gets sold in Central Florida, someone starts a story that Disney bought the land.

I believe a developer bought it, and will be turning it into timeshares. Seems logical, based on the location.

After all the land Disney just bought in Texas I don't see how they could afford to buy more.

The Orlando Sentinel had an article from May of 2006, which stated that the property has been bought AGAIN, from the original purchasers of the property, a group called Rolling Oaks Investment Properties LLC, which purchased the property from the original owners, which were several companies with connections to the Chinese government.
The new buyer was Wooden Bridge Partners GP LLC The buyers include the Falcon Group, a major south Florida developement company.
As of the date of the article, there were no development plans announced.
The Falcon Groups is a full service real estate company specializing in the development of multi-family, retail, office, and high-end residential products nationwide.
Go the the Falcon Group website online, to see the kind of things they build.

Thank you for the info. mitros ........

To date, mitros' info is accurate. The group has brought in Western Beltway Assoc to develop up to 320k s.f. of commercial/retail space last Sept.

I remember going there in '96 in the middle of summer. It was one of those absolutely swealtering days with 0 wind speed. DW and I were trying to walk through the park by strategically finding shade and taking water breaks. It was the worst Orlando tourist experience I think we ever endured. The miniatures were magnificent, but somehow there was something missing in its execution. "Marketingwise", there was nothing there to buy that could not be bought at an oriental grocery store. We found no reason to go back.
