We just got home this evening from a trip to Camp Spooky! at Mall of America. Super fun Halloween party that really got us in the mood for our upcoming Disney trip!My dd went on her first flume type ride and loved it, but wants to know how big is the drop on Splash, lots of laughs! Can anyone put her mind at ease? She is a newly turned 9 year old. Thanks!!!

The drop of Splash Mountain looks worse than it is. As I'm getting older, my stomach is getting weaker. I have no problem with the hill. The hill is part of the storyline of the ride! My family tries really hard to smile for the camera as we are going down the hill. Concentrating to smile takes your mind off the drop, and makes for an interesting picture! Don't miss Splash Mountain. It's one of the best attractions at MK!

It's a quick 5 story drop. It only lasts a quick second. Splash Mountain is my 75 year old Mothers favorite Disney Attraction. She's definately NOT a ride person, either. My son has been doing Splash since he was 6.
Unless she is very, very afraid of heights/drops - she will absolutely love this attraction.
If she does decide to go on it, talk her thru it. She may be so nervous worrying about the Big Drop, that she doesn't enjoy the whole story beforehand. Also, let her know there are a couple Practice Drops inside to help her get ready for the big one at the end.
I think alot of how our children handle rides depends on how we handle them ourselves & what emotion we show them. Help guide her into the excitement, rather than anxiety & she'll do great.

It definitely looks worse than it is. My daughter started riding it at 7 and just loves it. Last year I couldn't take her on because DH didn't come with us and I couldn't leave the baby and she was just crushed. It is just not a trip to Disney without a ride on SM.
Once she goes on you'll have a hard time getting her off!

Our kids have each been riding since they were 4. My trick for the drop is to NOT look down. Look out over the park and enjoy the beautiful view of the castle, etc. Before you realize you're dropping, you're at the bottom. I'm sure it will become a favorite attraction.::MinnieMo

the approximate fall is 52 feet, but the drop is over in about 3 or 4 seconds. its really not that bad if you have a good stomach. bundles of fun!

Quick drop and it's over before you have the chance to get real scared.::yes:: :wave2:

Here's a couple pictures of the drop, not sure if you can tell by the pictures how long the drop is but as everyone else has said it's over before you know it and it is fun!!

Thanks for all the replies guys! Just read them with DD and now she is so excited to try SM!!! Thanks dcg0317 for the pictures--very cool! Is it time to go yet????

Our DD-7 and DS-(turning 5 on trip) are so psyched about trying Splash for the first time on upcoming trip. DS is a daredevil anyway. DD is a little scared of drops. What really helped her was the partial ridethrough video accessed on the link above (Sorry, don't know how to insert link here)

We've done both! If your DD can handle the flume at MOA, then Splash Mt is no worse. In fact, the theming of the ride is much better.
