Splash Mountain

Thanks everyone! We’re going to pass. I know it’s a classic, but none of us is that keen on being soaked, especially our feet. We have a lot of walking left to do today, and I don’t want to end a trip that has been a practically perfect in every way :) with blisters. No biggie. We did Snow White and Alice this morning, both of were new to us too!

If you weren't packed in tightly with others, a good idea would be to take off your shoes and socks when you get out of the initial boarding. Put them under your poncho so they stay dry. Then put them back on when you get to the final scene.

This is another advantage of magic bands. When we go to the parks in WDW, I never carry a wallet (leave in safe in room) charging everything to the room. Don't like getting soaked and "washing my wallet".

CHANGE OF PLANS!! The boy is insisting, lol. DH is going to pass and keep our things safe. I’m getting ponchos for me and the kiddo. I did have the presence of mind to pack him crocs this morning, but pray for my feet :)
I’m waiting anxiously for a splash report! We’re gonna ride tomorrow and I’m always nervous about getting my shoes soaked. I don’t want to jinx it but I’ve ridden Splash countless time over the years and have always been lucky to never get too soaked, but I always sit in back.

We did it and lived to tell the tale! Kiddo was dry as a bone in his poncho except for his crocs, but nbd there. My poncho was long enough that by assuming a sort of hunched-over posture, I could tuck it around my shoes. I had a few drips get in through the neck and sides of the poncho, but nothing to write home about. Our souvenir photo is truly ridiculous 😂

We got soaked last time. My daughter has sworn it off and it was her favorite ride. Even our ponchos couldn't save us. Next time I'm bringing better ponchos and seeing if it helps.

At WDW we wanted to get wet so bad and barely a drip either time.

Glad you both had fun (and got a keeper ride photo, too)!

This old thread is still memorable (and, apparently, still true!): https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-rumors-of-splash-mtn-being-wetter-are-true.3739260/

Echoing what everyone else said, I got absolutely drenched/soaked/drowned a couple weeks ago on Splash. I was in front with my husband and larger son-in-law behind me. My lightweight son and daughter in the back barely got wet. It goes with what I've been told many times (and still let us all ignore): put lighter people in the front so it doesn't nose down as much. The first couple drops were the worst for the wave coming in the boat.

I am glad we were staying right across Harbor because DH and I made an unscheduled trip back to the hotel right after that to change. Also glad we got the traditional family picture with Tigger BEFORE we did this ride.

Yeah, it depends, but the problem I've had is that the logs take on water so keeping your shoes dry is tough. You do dry quick in CA, but not your shoes! It can depend on where you sit and how loaded the boat is. They turn off water effects in cooler weather (at WDW too), but natural splashes are still present, and they can overwhelm the boat at DL!

If you put your feet under the overhang of the log on the sides, they will stay mostly dry. Lift them up about an inch and brace them against the inside of the log at the bottom of hills so they don't get covered by all the water that enters the log.

I have to wear sneakers these days and this is how I always keep my feet dry.

My lap, though, is always completely drenched.

My granddaughters insist on changing into swimsuit and quickdry shorts water shoes on any water ride. I am still in the process of convincing them that just a poncho would be ok on pirates and Matterhorn. My oldest granddaughter still reminds me her shorts got splashed on Frozen last summer at Epcot.

But if it's only shoes you are worried about, a pair of cheap flip flops doesn't take up too much room in the park bag. Put your sneakers in an oversized ziploc in your lap

this is what we do. Cheap thin flip flops on Splash and GRR. We can deal with clothes getting wet, but not shoes.

We rode it this past April, near the end of the night, and got absolutely soaked and it was a little chilly that night so not much fun. The ride was a walk on, but for some reason they loaded up our log with all adults. I was in the front. If there's ever a next time I'm going to ask for our own log (if it's another walk on situation). Someone posted in a Disneyland FB group I'm in that they rode at the end of the night and each person got in their own log. Apparently they didn't get wet at all by doing that.

I got soaked on Frozen! Way more than on WDW solash. 😂
