Ok I am giong to DL in June so I am looking at all the info on Disneyland.... I wanted to know what the experts thought. Which version of Splash Mountain is better?
I like Disneyland's better by far - being fairly tall, WDW's gives me bad back pain each time I ride it. But Disneyland's pales in comparison to Disneyland Paris' SM, which is simply awesome!!
How are they different? I am chaperoning a trip to Anaheim in a few weeks , and I need to find ways to convince jaded Florida kids (who go to WDW all the time) that the rides really are different!
DL's Splash is much shorter, much less story development than WDW's. Also, riders sit in single file at DL.
(I much preferred WDW's Splash. However, I found it fun to ride every ride at DL when we went there for the first time last December in order to compare each to the same ride at WDW. Both Space Mountain and it's a small world are much better at DL, IMO.)
Have fun trying them all out!
WDW's is much better! Everything from the queue to the drop. DL's is so abreviated that you don't get much of the story that goes with it. Since I LOVE Splash Mountain at WDW, I was very disappointed. And as someone mentioned, the logs at DL are situated so that you ride single file. I ended up with this guy's knees in my ribs the whole ride; kinda weird and pretty uncomfortable!
Now SPACE Mountain on the other hand... THAT'S where DL has WDW beat to pieces!
I was just going to make a new post about this very subject but I am glad I posted first. I had just listening to the Meandering Mouse's Podcast of WDW's Splash and I noticed the audio sound way different that the Disneyland one I am very familur with. So the two are in fact different? I had thought the only real differnce were the logs.
Disneyland's Splash is I ride I totally adore, and hearing that WDW's is even better is making me even more excited for my first WDW trip in July!
Which park's SM came first anyway?
And what about DLP's that's so good? I know zip about that one.
Disneyland's Splash Mountain is far superior, IMO. You get wetter, and it's longer. Also, the Pirates of the Caribbean is more of a get wet sort of ride. It's attached to the Blue Bayou restaurant, the only restaurant in the actual Disneyland Park. The Blue Bayou wasn't great, but Pirates was.
IMHO, the ride experiences are very near the same. The major difference I have noticed is the seating configuration of the logs. I think at DL the train goes through a tunnel which has a windowed wall on the right and train passengers can see down into the room with the "riverboat" scene (the zippety do dah room).

And since there seems to be some disagreement in the concieved lengths of the two rides, WDW's is in fact longer. It's also much better looking, IMO. DL's looks outdated for some reason.
One of you said WDW's is longer and another said Disneyland's is.
Me thinks I'm all confused now.
Oh and I adore Blue Bayou. I can't goto Disneyland without eating there once. The atmosphere is second to none. It really feels like you are outside... indoors!
I concur. In my opinion most of the "duplicate" rides versions are better in DL, but WDW does have DL's splash beat, hands down.
Being a DL child I was so dissapointed in WDW's haunted mansion, pirates, fantasyland, etc. . .. .I was pleasantly surprised when we did Splash.
If I'm not mistaken, to answer another poster, I think WDW had their's first.
