Hi. We have been to WDW many times since we have lots of family to visit nearby. We are going to DL next week and my kids are wanting to go on Splash Mountain. I've been on the one at WDW, but kids have never wanted to go on it, but after going on Journey to Atlantis in Sea World during trip last month, they have decided to try Splash Mtn. My question is, how wet should we plan on getting? I remember being fairly wet at WDW, but wasn't sure how the DL version was. My DD8 hates being wet and I wanted to be prepared ahead of time. Thanks!:)

you can come off anywhere from completly dry to completly drenched. You never know. On average, I would say slightly wet, but I have been compleately covered as well.

Tell your daughter to do what I did my first time on Splash Mountain. Sit in the very front and then duck down as you're going down the big drop. The girl behind me got soaked, but, aside from a little spray on my back, I was pretty much bone dry.

This is an interesting question because even though it is called "Splash" mountain how wet you get varies from trip to trip. I've been on splash and not gotten a drop on me, but then there are times when you get in a log full of heavy men and because you're a small girl you get put in the front and get SOAKED! So unfortunately I can't give you a straight answer. Keep in mind it is a log ride so you're going to get a little wet, if not from the ride from the seats from the previous riders. Also, you can all be in the same log and two people will get drenched while the rest of the log remains untouched. It's a great ride though, not to be missed.

slight caution if you're going to try this, don't duck down if you're in a log full of big men! I'd heard to duck down because it makes the splash less extreme, so I ducked but because the log was so heavy and my face was closer to the bottom the front of the log literally went under the water and so did my face. Not fun, that water is very very cold and doesn't feel good going up the nose.

That's horrible! But certainly not a trip you're going to forget. :rotfl:

I was in a log with a bunch of kids and like 2 or 3 adults.

Some people get soaked, but I think that's rare, to be honest. I've been on it often, since it's opening, and I've never been drenched, and have only gotten slightly wet probably 95% of the time. Though that slightly wet can really suck when it all lands on my face, ruining a good hair and makeup day! :headache:

But that's one reason I tend to go at night, before I leave the park. I'm not going to look like a drowned rat with smeared eyeliner in my vacation pics!!

From my experience, you get MUCH wetter at Disneyland than you do at the Magic Kingdom, especially your feet. If you sit in one of the first two seats, expect to get as wet as any other Disney attraction in America (Kali River Rapids included).

I got the front seat, thought cool! Nope, first small hill, water over the side onto leg, big drop, big wave (not a splash either) came over the front and took care of the rest. I was soaked. The guests behind me said "wow, not bad at all!" and I turned and said "speak for yourself" with water covering my face and glasses. They thanked me for blocking the water. I looked like I had peed myself, but I guess that can be pretty standard...

Ask to sit in the back of the log - you rarely get wet back there, especially if the heavy people are in front! The wettest I've ever gotten was on the second drop (the one in the dark) when the water sloshed over the *side* of the log - my pants legs were soaked. Tip: Do NOT wear blue jeans if you're going to ride Splash Mountain - wear something that will dry fairly quickly.

Another tip.. hopefully not inappropriate:

Use the bathroom before going on the ride. I HATE trying to pull my tight jeans back up when they're wet.

The peeing suggestion was spot on.

IMO it's a bit bumpier than WDW and I really smash my elbow even on the inside of the ride so really hold on.

The water is hit or miss. I'm not tiny and got partially wet both times. We usually get a fast pas early in the am and when it's the full heat of the day, use it.

my DH and kids went on SM last visit. I waited for them at the exit, and people came off the ride ranging from just some little sprinkles here and there to soaking wet! Maybe it depends on where you sit? DD was in the way front and got soaked!

dreamcometrue, I saw your picture and did a double take! I thought it was *my* DD in that picture! :rotfl:

Splash is all about physics, it depends on the weight of your log. ex: a lot of fat ppl means you WILL get wet, whereas a log full of kids will come off mildy wet. I think/heard that the weight at the back of the log is the most important as the log comes down the bottom their weight gets transferred to the front. If you sit in the front you can get wet, or stay dry, most ppl duck but if it you hit the water right you can get soaked too.

In the end it really depends on your log, but if you want to guarantee a dry ride, then just bring a bunch of trash bags and cut holes for your head and arms or use a poncho.

FYI: My girlfriend and I have ridden with 2 other adults on the log so about about 500 lbs of combined weight I'm estimating and we got mildly soaked. She ducked in the front, while I was mainly wet from the second drop where a bunch of water sloshed onto my pants...

Put a poncho on (cheapie dollar store) and it will help with your upper body. But I was second from the front when I went (my last ride of the night last October), and my FEET got soaked from all the water sloshing around. Next time I'll put sandals on and tuck the poncho UNDER my bottom.

That's where I got it the worst as well. Except it almost came up neck high on me. It didn't just come from the sides, but over the top as well and landed in my lap. This was the first time we rode the ride and we rode in the morning when there was no line and there were just four of us in the log and we all sat in the first 4 seats. Little did I know what I just got in to :)

I have to say DL's Splash Mountain got me more soaked in June than ever before. It seemed they had more water in there, and that first hill (the tiny one when you are still outside) tons of water sloshed over. I tend to get wetter on MK's version for the most part because of the first part, where if you time it right (or wrong depending on how you feel) your log gets a blast of water as another log is coming down the big hill. Don't know why but my family always manages to be in just the right spot! DL's does not have that feature. I agree with everyone else, sitting in the back helps keep you drier and the varying sizes of riders will affect that as well.

It really just depends. I've been where I've gotten soaked, and other times I've gotten barely a drop of water on me. Your dd should sit toward the back and wear a poncho if she doesn't want to get wet. BTW, the little drops can drench your pants and make your socks and shoes wet, so maybe bring another pair of socks.

Or better yet just bring some flip flops or Crocs and leave your regular shoes and socks in a bag. And if someone in your party is wearing a poncho, you could have them put the bag in their lap under the poncho. But even if that isn't the case, just ask for a large gift bag at one of the near by shops and then fold it over in the log so they can stay nice and dry.
