Splash Mountain is one of my favorite rides inside the Magic Kingdom, but I was very disappointed on my last trip. The ride itself seems not to be taken care of very well, there was moss growing over everything! Even some of the character inside the ride. If Walt was still around this would have never happend. They really need to take better care of this Disney treasure.

I agree. The log we climbed into had mildew growing on different areas of the seat and it smelled mildewy also. I was excited to get my turn but then thought ooooey as I climbed in. This was early May NOT the busy season. I think a good spray with the bleach bottle was in order.

It did smell mildewy the other day when we rode it, but it had also just thunderstormed and the ride had been shut down for a little before we got on. I'm glad I had on my poncho when I climbed into the log because the seat was sooooo dirty where everyone steps into it getting in and out. We absolutly loved it but I guess you just can't get around the "wet" seats on "splash" mountain, LOL!

the wet seats I really didn't mind, it was all the green moss growing everywhere, I know this is florida, but aren't they supposed to clean the ride every night when it shuts down, and also isn't the water supposed to be clorinated?

The water is not chlorinated, but there is a chemical in it...gosh I can't think of the name of it but I believe it starts with a b. Anyway, it has to do with the way the whole water system works and that eventually water that is in Splash Mountain will eventually be in a river or lake or pond, so they can't have chlorine in it. The chemical they do put in breaks down a little more at each stage so that by the time the water makes it to the river/lake/pond, it's at negligible levels. I hope I'm remembering this right. It sounds good anyway!

I'm always reminding my kids to step on the floor not on the seat. Why do full grown adults have to step on the seats to get out?? Maybe I just have longer legs, but I always think it is bad manners to tromp on where the next person will sit.

Some of the rides are really hard to avoid that problem. POTC, and small world I can just step on the ground, but the logs at spalsh mountain are way to small to avoid stepping on the seat.

Are you thinking of Bromine? That's what is used at the Coronado Springs pool instead of Chlorine.

Is the chemical your thinking of possibly Bromine, an element in the same family as chlorine but stabler

Yep, that's it! Bromine. I kept wanting to say "Bonine" but knew that wasn't right :)

Last time we were there (Nov. 2002) I also saw one scene where Brer Rabbit is hopping along, he had a whole bundle of cables coming out his back clearly visible. What ever was supposed to mask them had fallen/broken off. I hope they have fixed that.

Who every is charge on upkeep at the Magic Kingdom should be really be fired. Even small world had paint chipping and bubbling off. When Disney was around even 1 light bulb wasn't allowed to be burnt out. They really need to clean up their act!
