Splash Mountain - How wet do you get?

I myself have never been totally soaked. Last time the back of my head was wet but the rest of me was totally dry. Other times the front of my shorts get wet but the top of me is dry. I can't figure it out. Wear a poncho if you are very concerned because the possibility to get very wet is there. This IMO is one of the best attractions in all of WDW. Don't miss it.

Sometimes it's not the drop that soaks you! There is a waterfall after the drop as your boat is heading to the unloading area. If your boat stops by that waterfall, you will get soaked especially your butt! I learned this the hard way when wearing white capris. Yippee.

My DS8 lives getting soaked! I don't! So I wear a poncho and I basically wrap it pretty tight around my body and definitely under my butt - it's kept me nice and dry ever since!

The farther back in the log you are the less wet you'll get. We take a hand towel from the resort or grab paper towels from a restroom to dry the seat off before we sit down.

I got SOAKED on Kali River Rapids. I've never been "soaked" on Splash Mountain and I bet I've been on that ride 25+ times. Sometimes a little wet, sometimes head/shoulders are pretty wet. As other have mentioned riders in the front almost always get the wettest from the splash on the final drop. If you are worried about it buy some inexpensive ponchos, though I don't think that's necessary. Splash Mountain is definitely in the top 5 rides at all of Disney World and should not be missed.

On our last trip I rode in the last row on the left side and just got a few sprinkles. My DH beside me got a little more of a splash at the end from one of the shooting water fixtures.

It all depends on where you set, probably how fast or heavy the log is, etc.

The chances you'd get totally soaked are remote if you set in the very back.

I found it depends where you're sitting with the front row being the wettest. It also depends on how the weight is distributed on the ride car. I rode twice on the same vacation in the 2nd row and we were pretty much dry the first time around and completely soaked the second time! On average you end up a little but wet but nothing too too bad that it won't dry.

I've heard that Pirates of the Caribbeans now gets you very wet which it didn't in the past if you're looking to stay dry.

:-)

I didn't know you can get wet on the POC! We rode that years ago and it wasn't a problem.

Is it fairly normal for people to wear ponchos on Splash Mountain? I don't care about looking like a dork but I have 2 teenagers and looking like a dork is a big NO NO!

I would recommend sitting towards the back. DH and I always ride front row and we come off pretty wet every time!

We've gotten soaked in the front row many times. A VIP guide told us once that the front, left-side seat is the most likely spot to get drenched, and I agree 100%.

In my experience you get the most wet if you are on the right side of the boat and in front....or if you are on the right side of the boat and in any other row and the person in front of you is short (i.e. a child) or ducks. If you don't want to get as wet, ride on the left side of the boat and duck your head as soon as you get to the bottom of the big drop. It's one of the best rides at Disney - so I wouldn't miss it! In the colder months, we will get a few $1 ponchos at Walmart or Target and plan to wear them and then toss them after we are done with the ride.

People do it all the time. Nobody will say a word, other than those jealous that they didn't think of it.

The CMs at Grizzly River Run in DCA were having fun with those wearing them, and said the grizzly bears only eat those who are wrapped in plastic like a sandwich! It's all in good fun and nobody will care. Actually, poncho's barely work on GRR (or Kali River Rapids at AK) anyway due to the sheer amount of soakage.

I call it a fun splash, a little wet but not soaked!

Ha ha, so far. :)

Exactly what my cousin and her husband said. Except it was way more than 25 times, because they have been going to WDW since they were teens. And then they rode with us. First row, we were behind. They aren't tiny, and neither are/were we. They were soaked to the bone.

Yes.

The water comes in from the sides there, and there is spinning involved.

I always get soaked on Splash Mountain whether it's WDW or DL. I've tried sitting in every seat to avoid it. It always seems to hit my head and my hair is wet enough that it looks like I just got out of the shower. We save Splash until we are ready for an afternoon swim break back at the hotel!

PS-- I rode Grizzly River Rapids at Disneyland and didn't get as wet as Splash Mountain. YMMV.

Getting stopped by that waterfall last June was wonderful :)

They must also be able to control how much water is flowing through thus how much "splash" there is. In January when it was cold out it was still running but there was very little splash and people were not getting wet.
I think you are right about this.

Usually not that wet, but sometimes at little wetter than others?

For me, this is a MUST DO ride. It is pure charm all the way through. If I am going in cooler weather or am worried about being wet all day, I just wear a poncho, no biggie.

YMMV. Past performance does not indicate future outlook. Yadda yadda yadda.

Don't go if you don't want to get wet.

If you don't want to get wet, wear a poncho. Sometimes there will be several people with ponchos in line, sometimes none. I can recall one time where I overhearheard a probably 12 or 13 year old boy made fun of my family because we were wearing ponchos. It was after dark and a cool December night. We got the last laugh. After the ride, we were mostly dry, but he was drenched-- I overheard him saying to his mother as he pointed to us "I'm freezing- why weren't we smart enough to do what they did!!!???!!!"

As others have said- no way to predict. One hot day, I rode without a poncho because I did not care whether I got wet-- I got out and was totally dry. DH and DD rode it that same day (we took turns using FP so I could hold the stuff and keep it from getting wet), and they were soaked. If I don't want to get wet right then, I wear a poncho even if it is a warm day. For example, I really have no interest in going to an ADR soaking wet. It really is a must do ride.

My daughter and I rode several times a couple of weeks ago when it was colder weather. We asked the cm where to sit and she suggested the back row. Not sure if that "holds water" (pun intended..lol..) and works every time, but we didn't get wet...splashed but not wet. The only negative was we also ducked so as not to get wet but then we missed the "view" so I might try a poncho next time.

And wet or not, it is a "must do"!
