It seems like the lap bars are more from keeping people from jumping out of the logs rather than "falling out". The new seats look really uncomfortable too.
:confused3

That picture is labeled "Summer 09" were they supposed to be updated last year?

In any case lap bars are not technically needed, there is no way for you to accidently fall out of your log on the drop.

Unfortunately there are many stupid people who jump out of their logs and into the scenes (especially before the big drop), and lap bars may keep them contained.

Disney has not said anything about a rehab on sm and disney is busy makeing the " next generation experience"

I don't think lapbars are needed...
oh and I don't think those are new seats, just covers on them;)

Yep they're dummies to test the functionality of the lap bars.

When Disneyland got new boats for Small World, they sent dummies in a few of the seats to test the weights (I think).

that reminds me. i heard when they were testing kingda ka at six-flags in NJ, they had eight dummies. When the coaster came back down, there was only 3 left.

NOO!!!!!

You know why this makes me mad? Before, If you had a little child with you... You could sit up to 3 in your row. (It would always be me, my mom and my sister in a row) But, i'm guessing with these new lap bars, you can't do that anymore :confused3

On the plus side, although you cannot actually fall out of your log and drop.. I'm still short and countless times, I would lift out of my seat. Which was cool for me I guess, but It DID get scary sometimes.

I hope they get lap bars.
I would feel much safer on that ride. I only ride that ride when my sister goes with me and holds me down, because I always feel like I'm going to fall out.

Well, Splash Mountain went down for refurbishment today until 31st January. Don't think it's enough time to put new logs in, but it could.

It does add more safety to the ride, and stops people from getting out, which I think caused the deaths of 2 people on the ride?

Without the bars gives you a sense of danger. They ruind it. Now my dad and me can't sit in the same row or else the lap bar won't fit over me and I'll slip right out being the "twig" that I am.

. No it's just to stop the high school field trips kids to jump out of the ride and plus that is to short of a rehab to put in a new loge and there is no news on any of the Disney sites I checked

News of new lapbars, or news of a refurbishment? Because the refurbishment info is on the Disney World website (at least the UK one).

If the lapbars stop anyone getting out for any reason, thus closing the ride until they're caught and increasing wait times, then it's a good thing.

This is probly just a prototype. Idk why they would out lapbars on. No one has died on that ride from flying off.
Also those who are scared of flying out HANG ON TO THE BARS THEY HAVE NOW! lol

I think lap bars would take the fun out of the ride.. Plus it would be a little uncomfortable! They should leave it as is :)
