Splash Mountain Drop?

OK... it took me five vacations before I would go on Splash Mountain. I am TERRIFIED of heights and drops... and I will NEVER go on Tower of Terror. :scared1:

With that said...

I did Splash Mtn for the first time in June. I just squeezed Greg's arm, closed my eyes, and screamed. After that, I decided that I was going to ride it until I would have enough courage to open my eyes. We ended up going on it no less than 10 times! :woohoo:

The inside is great... probably my #2 favorite ride in MK. And as long as you know WHEN the big drop is coming, you will be fine. Have your partner spill the beans and warn you ahead of time. It will make you less nervous. ;)

Do it!

And to Suzanne above me... YES, there are actually four drops (three inside), and a couple little slopes, but they are ALL easy peasy like POTC.

Hi!
I'm a ride chicken!!
I won't ride Space Mt., BTMRR, or any of those scary rides, but last summer...my friends & family did talk me into getting on Splash MT.

It wasn't too bad. I'm sure I'll do it again next week when we get to WDW!

Oh NO Daisy!!! You HAVE to do BTMRR! It is seriously like an adult version of a kiddie coaster. I have the weakest tummy on the planet, yet I LOVE that ride. We make sure to watch the fireworks while we are on it at least once a vacation. In June we were able to turn around and hop right back on to watch the fireworks during two rides! Sometimes, if it gets really dead, they'll let you just stay on for another turn! Definitely a must-do!

That said ... it's a few seconds of drop. But if you are truly TERRIFIED of heights, then it's not the drop that will scare you, it's the fact that from the top of it, you do in fact look out at the park. Which means you can see how high up you are. And you're probably about 60-65 feet in the air when you start to drop. If it were a dark ride where you couldn't tell how high up you were, I don't think you'd have a problem with the drop itself. But in this case, you might want to avoid it.

:earsboy:

And its such a beautiful view how can you miss it? ;)

i am deathly scared of heights! i have real bonafied panic attacks. spash moutain is a BREEZE! u will love it i promise. when i rode soarin i freaked out and that was a movie about heights hahahaha. u will be fine!

But aren't there technically 3 drops on Splash Mountain? I think that is what is stopping me.

There are 5 drops on Splash Mountain.

The first drop is to get into the indoor show scenes from the top of the mountain, there are two drops in the mountain (one is in the dark), the forth drop is the "big one", and the fifth is very small, maybe like 3 feet just to get under the railroad and into the finale.

As one GIANT scary ride chicken, I always try and let anyone know when they ask about Splash Mountain that there is more than just one big drop (and yes, for someone who hates heights and drops like me, they can be intense if your not expecting them) so they can prepare themselves for it.

There is a video of the ride on Youtube, which would give you an idea of what the smaller drops are like. They turned the camera off for the big drop though, and only have a shot of the drop from the bridge.

It's a fab ride - feel the fear and go for it! My mum is terrified of rides, and will not set foot on one in the UK. However, her mantra at Disney is "It's done by Disney, it's for little kids, I'll be OK." Funny the first time she said it, 45 mins later it wasn't so funny!

Comparing this to say Journey to Atlantis how does it rate?
Or to Duddly Do Rights Rip Saw Falls?

Might calm my nerves some..I have conquered those a few times.
DD will be 5 and makes the height this trip...YAY and I want us to all ride but I am a bit nervous.

THANKS :)

I'm not scared of heights, but I am scared of of falling - I rode Splash Mountain twice in May with ds5 - who loved it. Now - maybe if I were smart enough to close my eyes, it wouldn't be so bad - but it's the falling out of the log sensation that gets me, not the height, so I don't know if that would help ? I swore I wouldn't ride it next time - we'll see - I probably will - with tape over my eyes so I can't see that briar patch :)

I don't like drops either. I finally figured out that if I clench my stomach muscles during the drop, I don't feel that sensation hardly at all. That doesn't mean that I'll be riding Tower of Terror any time soon, but I love roller coasters and am planning to ride Splash Mountain on my upcoming trip.
