I am devastated ... have just read that this iconic ride will be closed for refurbishments when we visit next March. :sad1: I do understand the need for refurbishments etc, but I thought it was bad enough missing out on Star Tours and now to miss another major ride is very disappointing. :sad2: How do others cope with missing their favourite rides when closed??? Unfortunately we won't be back for another trip for many many years. :upsidedow

that just plain sucks! we will be there from the 21-27 and this is one of my oldest boys fav. rides. *sigh* well at least there will be one less fight as my youngest boy is not big enough to ride it!:sad2:

January through May!?!? That's such a long time! Now I'm devastated! I'm going May 1st - 6th and I won't be able to ride it. It will be my boyfriend's first visit to a Disney park and now he won't be able to ride this fantastic ride.

First the Food and Wine Festival and now Splash Mountain!? Is it a sign that I shouldn't go!? I may just push our trip back to August or something so I can ride that and The Little Mermaid.

Wow that is a very long time to be closed for a refurb. Sorry to hear that for your trip. I wonder why they are closing it for so long? I have heard rumors of lap bars for the WDW version.

Sorry you'll miss one of your favorite rides. That's the downside of going during off-season though. Don't worry, you'll still have a great time!

That is quite a long time. Would you mind sharing a link to where you read that? I'm not finding that information anywhere.

I would also like to know where you found that. I can't find it and I have been looking since we are going in March.

I'd like to know where this information is from. That is a much longer than usual Splash rehab.

I found the information in the Mouse Planet DLR Update dated Nov 15. Sorry I'm not very computer savvy, so not sure how to "post a link":confused3:confused3 Thanks for all the kind comments, I know we will still love our trip to DLR, just so disappointed, especially for my kids.

You are welcome! I hope this refurb has major and noticable changes, otherwise I will be sorely disappointed. I hope they have a soft opening when I'm there, but I won't get my hopes up.

Since when is Spring Break included in the "off season"? :confused3

I was thinking of an early 2011 trip, but now thinking of making it a later 2011 trip. Splash is my favorite.

I didn't think it was off season either ... but coming from Australia didn't want to argue! :rotfl:

I have been planning our trip for over a year especially so I can celebrate my 40th at DLR and then meet friends in Hawaii to celebrate their golden wedding anniversay ... so not too flexible with dates! It will be a wonderful holiday and I just love all the information and help that I get from everyone on the DISboards. :flower3::flower3:

Well the OP said "March" which could be early or late March - so maybe off-season - maybe high season.

Even so, when a major refurb (4-5 months) is done then usually Spring Break high season is the high season which is affected. Which I am sure you already know. :)

To the OP, it is always a bummer when a favorite ride is down, but truly if it is going to "devastate" someone if rides are closed down for refurb then such people should give stronger consideration to summer trips or Christmas Holiday trips.

If you want to be able to experience all of the rides and see all of the shows, visit DLR during high season and learn how to work with crowds. If you want to visit when it is least crowded, expect to miss some rides and shows.

For others trying to decide when to visit DLR, here are some links that may help you decide which season is best for you:

I wasn't referring to the OP's planned travel dates as "off season". I was referring to the refurb running through May which clearly includes the peak season of Spring Break.

Your gentle reminders that no one should be disappointed about ride closures when they don't book their trip during the correct season are always appreciated though, Trey. ;)

Hmmm, this may be enough to get us to move our trip (were going in February). Ds1 was really upset that last time we only rode splash once, and he's really looking forward to it again...

Thanks Hydroguy, I have read many of your rules and really appreciate all the time and effort you have gone to in preparing them. :worship:

As I have since mentioned we will definitely have a great holiday regardless of what rides are closed. Perhaps "devastate" was too strong a word to use! :rotfl: Our holiday dates are not flexible at this stage as we have already booked flights and accommodation for all stages of our trip to California and Hawaii. I am so very excited about our trip and I definitely won't let any small disappointments ruin our holiday. :goodvibes
