Spirit of Aloha

I was wondering if anyone has been to the Spirit of Aloha dinner show...I just made an ADR for our upcoming August trip and then read some good and really bad reviews for it. We have been going to WDW almost every summer for awhile and wanted to try something different. We are on the DDP...any opinions would be appreciated.

Our group went in April for the first time and we loved it. The food was a big hit and even though we had category 3 seating we still had a great view. The beginning skits were not much but the show got better as it went on.

I say go and form your own opinion. You never know unless you try.

We loved it... great view from category 3, plenty of good food, unlimited draft beers, spectacular firedancer, and a few good disney tunes mixed in!

We have ressies for this show in September. While the reviews have been mixed, we're looking forward to it as a great night of entertainment, something we wouldn't ordinarily experience. We've planned it after a day at Animal Kingdom, and we don't park hop, so it was a nice way to spend the early evening outdoors and being fed!

We thought the food was just okay, and the service was poor. Frankly, the biggest disappointment was the show. The fire guy was fantastic, but, well, the other dances all started looking the same to us. We're not Polynesian dance officianados, and seeing the dances from the different islands got to be a bit boring for us. It was cute when the kids got up to dance. It was a go once kind of night.
Now, the Hoop-dee-do is a go to again and again show. The food is alright, and the service is much better than at the luau. The entertainment is so silly and fun, it will get your feet stomping and your hands clapping. If you can only pick one show, I'd pick the HDD.

Does anybody know when they tell you if they cancel the show due to weather? If they know the weather might be bad will they cancel it at noon to give a chance to all those people a chance to make new reservations or will we be standing outside and they tell us "oh sorry you are out of luck tonight?"

We ate there on Dec. 23, 2007.

OP, have a terrific time~take advantage of that DDP! The show is nice, the food is tasty, the service is what you'd expect at a dinner show, infrequent. We did this 2 years ago and really had a nice time. DKs loved it, too!

As far as weather cancellations, it has to be raining pretty good for the show to be canceled. Last year, we left MK due to storms and headed to Poly to grab a bite at Captain Cooks and the resort was just swarming with the Spirit of Aloha spectators. The rain was epic and we all felt bad for everyone that was missing out on the show because of the weather. We have seen the show during light, steady rain, but if it starts to blow, water does get onto the stage and it's not safe for the dancers then.

We went in '06 and loved it. DD16 wanted to go again this year but we just couldn't fit it in the schedule. The food was awesome, very tasty! Our server was great! The show....slow at times, lasts a little too long but all in all a very nice dinner show. We'd do it again.

We did the luau for the first time in September and we loved it.....we thought the food was great and the show was cute . I also read many "not-so-good" reviews before we booked it, but I decided we needed to experience it for ourselves.....and I'm glad we did as we had an awesome time . We were there during free dining but we opted to pay for tier 1 seating rather than use 2 TS credits for tier 2 or 3, and we couldn't have gotten better seats.....we were right up front by the stage and didn't miss a thing . But I agree with a pp that said go and form your own conclusions as there are sooooo many different opinions from people....some (like our family) loved it, while others not so much . We won't do the luau every year, but I can see us going back for another show in a few years....that's how much we enjoyed it.....it was something different .

We have done both and I agree the Hoop should be seen as well. A different kind of show from the Luau. I liked the Luau food better and DH liked the Hoop food better.

Thank you for all the info....We'll definitely keep our ADR! We just wanted to try some new things this trip. We've never done a dinner show before and figured this trip we would do a show a some signature restaurants instead of the same old thing!

we took our then 7 month old last 2 years ago and we all had a fantastic time.

we've booked again for next May and she has recently seen some of the video from that trip and has asked if we are going to "that" party again.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the bread at the start.

the only thing i would love to see changed is the "story" of the show - it's kind of cheesy.

i'd love to see a traditional evening not the story line they have. there are so many beautiful and exciting dances they don't really need that story.

maybe i'm alone in this though.
