Could someone tell me a little about it? We have always done Hoop Dee Doo but were thinking of trying something different this time. Is the food good, what about the show? Tell me anything you have. Any pictures? Thanks in advance!

My family and I saw the show a couple years ago and enjoyed it. The theme or story is about family and traditions. At the beginining they talked about their family life from years ago and how things have changed or evolved. There is dancing and the end there is the "fire guy" as my DS's had called him.
He flips and twirls a firestick. We found the whole show entertaining even my DS's who were 9 & 7 at the time. The food was very good. I think I ate all the ribs myself. The best part for me was the dessert. It was chocolate mousee in the shape of volcanoes with raspberry filling as the lava. I ate almost 3 myself for how good they were.

We have also done the HDDR and I think a lot of people like to compare them but they are totally two different shows and themes. I also think even though it's to go back to the same things that you may have enjoyed in the past, it is also good to try new things to see if you like them.

I hope this helps out a bit. I would say give it a try. It will be your "something" new for your trip.

I didn't care for the Luau. We were not crazy about the food, the tables were very tight next to one another. The show was okay, but the over all experience wasn't worth the money.

I much more enjoyed the food and the show at the HDDR.

We're looking into doing Mickey's BBQ next. That sounds like fun for the kids

Did this dinner show March 08. Corny theme for the show but in a Disney kind of way - family is important, your home is where your heart is, your heritage is your destiny - and all that. Not complaining about it a bit.

Food is above the average for these kind of venues. Steamed veggies. Ribs good. Chicken good. Had to fight the DH and DS3 and DS5.5 for proteins. I mainly ate the nice fruity lettuce salad and pineapple bread (really nice) due to my preference as our server would have definitely brought more of the proteins. Not a huge fan of most WDW desserts but do appreciate the artistry of the product. DS5.5 had no problem at all eating his choc volcano mousse cake AND mine.

Dancing good. Fire dancer compelling. Side note - one of the hula "girls" was I swear a dude (XY) which was also compelling in and of itself.

Oh adult specialty beverages pricy, potent, and in a plastic keepsake glass with a light up icecube. Beer included and our server brought DH 2 at once (he didn't request it; I think it helped her time mgmt; obviously not concerned about waste on the ETOH).

Definitely worth a try!

We did the luau last August. We all really enjoyed it! The food was excellent, in fact my kids thought it was the best food they had had all week. The show is a little hokey but still enjoyable. We would all do it again anytime.

I would suggest booking as far in advance as possible because the seating is assigned based on when you book. The best seats would be in cat.1 as close to the stage as possible or the first row in the raised seating.

Have done this one 2 or 3 times, can't recall. Really nice for younger kids to get out and dance with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy. We started doing this one when first DS was still the only one so he must have been about 2.5 or 3 and he seemed to really enjoy. And you can't complain about any venue in which you can hear a good rendition of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia".

I think the food at Spirit of Aloha was better but of course that is personal preference. On a funny note, one of the older ladies was running the beer tap one night at MBYB and just couldn't seem to pull a nonfoamy glass. She was getting frustrated and all the men behind me were getting impatient. "Here let me show you", I say. So I taught her how. One guy behind me comments, "now there's a girl who's tapped a keg before". The moral of this story is, I guess I have another valuable life skill I can reflect upon when paying college student loan bills.

We enjoyed the food immensely, especially the volcano dessert! I didn't much care for the actual show, unfortunately. I know everything Disney has to have some kind of a "story" and I appreciate that, but I found the whole setup surrounding the Hawaiian girl coming home from college to be cheesy and annoying. I would have preferred it if they just stuck to the basic luau entertainment (hula dancers, fire dancers, etc.) and dropped the lame and badly acted storyline. But we still had a great time! Next time we'll try the Hoop Dee Doo.

We have done SoA twice -- once in January, and then around 1.5 years prior.
I really like the food. I give it a big thumbs up.
The storyline was the same basic one, but I think cornballed down a little more this last time. The dancing of course is great.
A very enjoyable, relaxing show, very good and service.


I will mention anyone who plans to take photos, etc, seating is important. This last time we were in the "Cinderella" section in the back. It was fine for us. But had we wanted pics, etc, it would have been an issue.

I think it is especially fun if you have kids because of the fire guy. As a child I loved it. My DH and I went a couple of year's ago and felt that we had enough until we have children. But, I believe trying everything at least once in Disney since people always have such different experiences.
