2 questions. I have been reading some not so good reviews on the food but we are wanting to do it for the atmosphere. Has anyone had any recent experiences there and how far a walk from the GCH to Luau Cove is it??

My family loved the food here!!! So don't pre-judge that. This was one of the best meals we had at WDW! Enjoy!

I'm not sure about the walk, but we really enjoyed the luau. It was very entertaining for us. The food was alright, but the atmosphere was fun.

My family and I loved the luau. The first half of the show isn't the greatest but the second half is awesome with the island dances and of course, the fire dancer. We all thought the food was excellent, especially the ribs, rice and pineapple bread.

You'll have a great time! :thumbsup2

We also loved the luau....like the previous poster stated...the 1st half of the show is not show fabulous...more like a play. But the second half with the "authentic like" hawaiian dancers....they are great! Almost like being in Hawaii at a Luau. The food was great...all you can eat...ribs...chicken...rice...pineapple bread...beer, wine and soda!! YUM!! The entertainment and food was well worth the price!! Have fun!!

The walk wasn't far ... Can't tell you HOW far - but I know it wasn't a terrible walk!

As for the food - count our family in as having enjoyed it! Both of my boys ( well young men) still talk about it - we ate there in May 2005. Oldest DS has an ADR for his Disney Honeymoon in October!

I LOVED the ribs - youngest DS loved the chicken ... and the server kept bringing and bringing him chicken .. it was hilarious.... then she snuck him a couple extra volcanos.. (I say snuck because at the time we were limiting his chocolate intake due to his epilepsy ... he was 16 at the time so he knew the deal .. but he loved those things... )

My daughters chose this over HDD this year! We all thought the food was good!
As for the walk, it isn't long, but it is such a beautiful resort to walk through that it convinced me that when I could, I would stay there!
We check in at the Poly in 10 days!

The walk from GCH to the Luau is a very scenic and an easy four to five minute stroll, give or take.

It isn't a long walk. The food? Fine. I'm not all that jazzed about this kind of food, but it fills me up, so it's fine. :)

Does everyone sit together at a long table? How is the food served? What else is served besides ribs and chicken?

We could not get a dinner reservation for the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show but we are staying at the Polynesian. Is it possible to view any of the show without having a reservation? We would love to go just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks!

Yes, there are long tables, they now have a tier system in which you have to pay for the area you will be sitting in, the price isnt really much different though. The food is served as a combination platter and most of the meat is smoked, there is also rice and vegetables.

The Polynesian Luau was WAY better, but we go to the Spirit of Aloha every year and we still love it. The beginning is meant for kids but the ending is the best part.

You can hear the show from the nearby beach, Im not sure if they close the cove or not once the show begins, otherwise you may be able to see some of it from behind the rope.

We like the luau, I thought it was better as the Polynesian Luau than as the Stitch show but the food was good. My only suggestion would be to check on transportation after the show before booking the late show. We stayed at the POFQ during the middle of Aug. 2006 and it went to the late show. Since we were on public transportation and the MK was closed when we left it took us 1 1/2 hours to get back to our room!

Bad planning either of my part or Disney's.
