Right now I have a reservation to the Hoop Dee Doo 7:15 show. All I could get was a Cat 3 seating. There has been an opening for the Spirit of Aloha at 8:00 seating in Cat 2.

Should I keep the Cat 3 seating for HDDR or switch over to Spirit of Aloha? We've never done a dinner show and have no idea which the girls would like best (4 & 5 yrs old). How is the Cat 3 seating?

Thanks a bunch!

We have never done Spirit of Aloha, but have done Hoop Dee Doo a few times. I honestly think your younger girls will really enjoy HDDR!! It's a really fun and cute show that the young girls (and you!) will get a kick out of! The first time we went, our kids were DS6, DS8, and DD10, and they talked about it the rest of the trip! The Cat 3 seating is along the railing on the upper tier, overlooking the stage! In my opinion there is no bad seat in the house.
I would say keep what you have and enjoy!

I think your girls would be more entertained with HDDR...the servers get into the show, the "actors" go out into the audience (although I am not sure about upstairs, but I think they did).

Spirit of Aloha is more "adultish" or older child. They do things with the kids, but for younger ones, there are a lot of boring parts that just go over their heads.

Thanks, that was what I needed to hear. I wasn't sure the quality of Cat 3 seats.....it's great to hear we'll enjoy no matter where we sit.

I thought the girls would enjoy HDDR more....I just needed reassurance! lol :lmao:

Do you know if they would bring out something different for picky kiddos? DD1 won't eat anything (except the bread) on the menu...DD2 may eat the chicken.

I can't help you with the kids items at HDDR, but can tell you that they do interact with the upstairs patrons (some Cat 2 and all Cat 3 seating).

My nephew was so entralled by the show at 18 months tha we are going back this NYE (he'll be 4 and his twin brothers will be just over 2.5).

To be honest, as adults we found HDDR to be enjoyably corny but we much preferred SoA ... but I agree that it is more geared to older kids/adults.

Also, the 7:15 HDDR is probably better with young kids than the 9:00PM SoA ... unless you are are staying at a monorail resort it would be a late night and likely a long trek home after the show (especially if you are using Disney Transport).

Is Cat. 3 seating at Spirit of Aloha ok? I had Cat. 1 for the 5:15 show, but then we added the dining plan and had to switch to Cat. 2 or 3. They only had Cat. 2 at the 8:00 so I booked that one. Now we are overthinking and trying to decide if we should go back to the 5:15 show, but didn't know how good Cat. 3 seats were. Thanks for any help! :)

Your girls will probably like HDDR better at their age. I definitely suggest SoA when they're a little older though.. it's a fun show to watch and the food has always been great!! If you've ever seen the fire twirler that performs in The Lion King show at AK, the same man performs during the SoA show and it's pretty cool. :wizard:

IMO, HDDR all the way. DH & I have tried the luau a few times and it's lacking something. We much prefer HDDR! Way more fun!

I can't really tell you much except that SoA has the seating in tiers. There is a main floor and a second tier above it.

I would imagine that Cat 2 is the back of the main floor and front of the second floor with Cat 3 at the back of the second floor, but am not 100% sure. Hopefully someone else will reply with more details for you.

I would recommend the Hoop De Doo Revue as we just did it in April and it was extremely enjoyable :woohoo: We were up in the balcony and it was perfect :yay: When we checked in, I actually changed us to the balcony from category 2 on the floor in the back because I felt we would see better and I am so glad I did :dance3: Our group had made matching shirts and we got a lot of attention with them :lmao:

I would go with HDDR. I agree that something is lacking at the SOA. The traditional dances are very good and entertaining but the rest has a very cheesy storyline which we can never get into. This year was our last time for a while. We are going to try something different in the future.

We did both on our 2009 trip of 3 kids(ages 4,8,13) and 8 adults we will be going again to the HDDR this trip. Out of the 11 of us only 1 enjoyed it. So I'm sure you can guess I would vote for HDDR.

Spirit of Aloha has two tiers.

Cat 1 is in the middle of 1st tier.

Cat 2 is second tier middle and all along the front and the last row of middle of 1st tier.

Cat 3 is the very sides of 1st tier and back/sides of 2nd tier.

I hope I remembered that right. It's on the WDW website.
