SPIRIT OF ALOHA LUAU
We booked the Luau months ago and oldest DD was really looking forward to it. They tell you to arrive at 8:00 for the 8:30 show. We did and had to walk through the Poly out to Luau Cove. Once we checked in we could get a group photo taken or wait in line to be let into the dining section.

They have tables of four set in lines – we were the fourth table back in the line from the stage and we still had a very good view of the entire show. Once we were seated, the salad, pineapple and bread were delivered to our table – served family style. The waiter will ask what you want to drink – beer and wine are part of the dinner ticket price. They also offered some festive drinks that glowed in the dark. The show started after our salad and kept us entertained while we waited for the main course. The story is a little lame, but entertaining.

The main course consisted of chicken, rice and ribs. The waiter would refill anything they ran out during the course of us eating. Our youngest DD had chicken nuggets.

Dessert was chocolate mouse volcanoes and they brought those out steaming.

They got the kids up on stage to do the hula and then any special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and newlyweds. The show continued during the courses and ended with a fire dancer. All in all, for the money spent, it was a good show and the food was good. To top it off, the fireworks (Wishes) from the Magic Kingdom were going off as we left the Luau so we were able to watch them from the Poly.

Meal: B+, Service: B+, Atmosphere: B (only because it is outside and it was muggy – make sure you wear bug spray); Overall value: B+

I have always like the luau and I have ressies for this year for the new and revamed luau. Thanks for the review, except for the "story" it does sound a lot like the old luau.

hi, thank you for the great review. one question, please. they used to have long tables where several parties were seated together instead of individual tables for each reservation. you mentioned that there were tables for four now. are all the tables private or are there still mostly "communal ones"? thanks

We found the tables to be 'communal'. They are tables for 4, then a space of about 10" and another table for 4 and so on back. I can't remember how many rows back it was....maybe 6 or 7? And maybe 15 rows across? We were in the second row, right in the center, so we didn't much see what went on behind us. And we were never told about the family photo!!! We got there about 45 minutes before the start. So, had plenty of time for a picture taking. Ah well.

Glad to hear good reviews about the Laui! We are going to this show on our first night to the 8:00 show. There will be eight of us! We have been hearing the storyline is lame but that's o.k. I'm sure we will still enjoy it!!

Thank you! You're review was very helpful. We have ressies there for our trip in 8 days! I am really excited about that show. I have heard that it is kind of goofy, that's OK. We are going for the theming. I've always wanted to check out the POLY. That's where I would stay if we could afford that little extra. My DH would pick the WL. HEY! Maybe next time we will split our stay between the two. IN MY DREAMS.
ANYWAY, I really appreciated your review. Do you think my 3 year old DD will enjoy it?

Thanks for the review. We are planning on doing this show in Feb. My DD (almost 4) keeps asking for hula lessons! She has a grass skirt and imitates what she has seen of hula dancing so I thought this show would be perfect. You mentioned the kids got up to do the hula. Was this open to all the kids who wanted to go up or were certain kids picked out of the audience? DD would be thrilled to have "hula" lesson! :)

Thanks for the review. We have done the Luau several times and always enjoyed the food and the show. I am enjoying your trip reports that you have posted so far.

I'm so glad someone posted a good review about the luau! For a while I kept seeing negative reports and I so wanted to try it! ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

Thanks for the review. My DD, almost 3, and I make our first WDW trip in Sept. I'm really hoping we can get PSs for the luau. I'm also curious about the hula lessons as I think DD might be interested in joining in if it is open to all kids.

Also, thanks for the note about bug spray. I hadn't even thought about bringing that along but it is on my packing list now.

Ok, I have to put in my 2 cents here. I was very disappointed with the Luau. I thought the plot was very cheesy and lame and the food was just okay. I wished there was more hula and fire dancing and less of a story. It was not worth $50 a person to me. I'm writing this to offer another perspective since I wish I would have known before I went. I hadn't read any reviews before I went. If I had, I probably wouldn't have gone. To each their own though.

Thanks for the review. We are thinking of going next summer when our whole family is there. Good idea with he bug spray!!!

We were just there on July 10th, and the food is not as good as O'hana's but the experience was good. If you can go during the 8:30 show because during the summer the 5:15 show was so hot that the dinner was less enjoyable for us. We had been out at the parks all day and wanting to cool off and it did not happen. I knew it was outside but even sitting down under ceiling fans it was still hot. My little girls hair was wet it was that hot out.

CALL NOW! The Luau can be booked two years in advance. We made our December 2004 reservations last November.

We went to the Luau in April & had a great time. We were a little worried by the many bad reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. Liked the show & really liked the food. The only thing we missed from when we went several years ago was the Mai-Tais. They now offer wine along with beer.

We're going with the family - and we are a lot more than 4 people;) . Are the tables only for 4? Or can they be pushed together? And are the wheelchair accessible?

What happens if it rains?

thanks much!
