It is my families 1st time at disney! (me,dh,dd15,dd12), how is the spirit of aloha dinner show at the Poly? What kind of food and how is the entertainment? Also on the 4th of July we were planning to do this, does any one know about what time the MK fireworks start and if we can see them from the Poly beach?
Thank you so much !
Donna

If you mean this 4th of July, it might be hard to get an ADR (depends). The show is not that great and the food is barely mediocre. Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue is 100x better than Spirit of Aloha! It was the best night we had on our most recent trip and we are going to it again on our trip over Thanksgiving. Spirit of Aloha is not that good (i think i speak for everyone when I say Hoop-Dee-Doo is much, much better).

Really? I'm interested in hearing what other think too. I've got SOA booked for October...but could change it to HDDR I think

That's too funny...my family totally prefers the Spirit of Aloha. We enjoy being at the Polynesian...the outdoor pavillion where the show is...the food was not that bad at all....the breeze of the summer evening....I remember it being quite enjoyable. The storyline starts out a little slow in the beginning but as the show evolves its quite entertaining! We loved the guy with the fire..he was hot (no pun intended). The ribs..the rice..the chicken...it was all very good. The late show seems better in the summer to us...because of the weather...the sun going down..etc. It helps add a real tropical feel to is all. We love it.

I truly enjoy anything regarding the Polynesian (South Seas) myself. I just love the hotel...the staff are great. The HDDR is more of the one liner...somewhat corny slapstick humor...which I really am not into. Its all just a matter of taste for each one of us. I usually just make anything at Disney enjoyable...cause darn it...I love going to Disney!

We loved Spirit of Aloha! The show was great, we had seat right in front...we thought it was wonderful. The food was also very good. DD did not like the kid's meal that was brought to her but liked our food just fine. The desert wasn't great but we were full and didn't really want it anyway. The atmosphere is very relaxing as well.

We have done the Luau three times in the past and always enjoyed the show. We thought the food was very good. They have ribs, chicken, rice, vegtables etc. It also includes your drinks and desert. We took our then teenage daughter to see it several years ago and she really enjoyed it. I would book the later show. :)

We enjoyed SoA. I think the story line is a little lame, but the dancing and music are awesome. It does not have the same humor as HDDR.

I think the food was good at both. DD did not like the food at SoA as much as at HDDR. I think the rice had a citrus flavor (can't remember.)

DD was a year or so older than than your kids when she saw both of the dinner shows for the first time. She liked them both for different reasons.

I think both are worth seeing at least once.

I've been to Spirit of Aloha 2 times and would go again.
The Poly Resort is Beautiful at night, the setting on the water.....
I really liked all the food too, everyone in our group of 10 enjoyed the meal, service was terrific too.
I love the show, the dancers, the costumes.....
I would definately go.....
I live in Michigan and there is no where to go to a "dinner/show"....
It is such a treat and magical!! :tinker: :tink:

Another vote for the Spirt of Aloha. The atmosphere is great, you are outside which has its advantages (and disadvantages) and the show/food is fantastic. I didnt like the HDDR at all, the food was dry, the show wasnt really funny, and the actors went to the first two rows and the balcony for participation. The people in the middle/back never even got looked at.

Donna - I think we're gonna stick with SoA...how bout you? SOunds like there's enough people who do enjoy it. We're going on October 3...how about you?

Im going to try to get it. I am leaving July 2nd and wanted a 4th of July one, but I can imagine there all booked! It looks like a good place!!

If you go make sure to post your review!

btw...I leave for Long Island Monday! In-laws live in Port Jeff

We really like the Luau. We all agreed the food was really good and the show was fun. I have some pics but I'm not sure how to post them. :thumbsup2

Yea we love it we're going back in about 2 weeks!!!! I see you're from Long Island also!!! :thumbsup2

The fireworks at the Poly beach will be very crowded. I think a lot of people come over there to watch. But...its a great show. Just get there early to find a seat or spot on the beach. :thumbsup2
