Yea or Nay?

Planing a family reunion (with the help of grand gatherings) for next August and looking at different places for a family dinner (22 people so far).

I've never did this show but I have done Hoop dee do.

What's your take?

My family did both, two nights apart. We liked Hoop Dee Doo better for both entertainment and food. The food at the Luau was mediocre at best, and the part we found most entertaining was the fire dancer. Hoop Dee Doo is corny, but our server was hilarious and dead-pan which works well with my family. The food was delicious (provided you like ribs and chicken) and I liked the show -- I do theater and it was cute.

Check out this link... Poly Luau We were there this past May. You will hear differing opinions on this...my kids thought it was great.

We enjoyed Spirit of Aloha. We didn't realize until after the fact how authentic the costumes and dances are (the show is an interwoven experience of a modern day story and traditional island dances), although we appreciated how talented all of the performers were. We'd definitely recommend it as an overall experience -- no, not the most spectacular meal of the trip, but fine for what it was and we were really there to see the show.

We liked it and have done it twice. The Hoop Dee Do is much more interactive and isn't quite as spread out . The luau can be good for families or couples, it kind of catches all types of audiences. I would think for a grand gathering the seating there would be better suited (seat more people together).

I've done it a few times and really enjoyed each time. Last time..I actually said I had forgotten how good it was!:confused3

we did this our first night there last year and thought the food was good there but did not really care for the show. it was not bad but it just don't think it is worth it. if i had to choose one of the shows i think i would go with the hddr.

SoA was ok - not bad, but not awesome.

We loved the Backyard BBQ if you're looking for a 2 ts credit dinner. Good character interaction, good food, and walk up cooler for ice cream for the kids and walk up beer for the adults. We had a group of 11 - it's a great one with a large group because you can move around and socialize with people other than the few you are sitting next to.

I don't know why, because I'm not at all a picky eater, but I really didn't like the food last time we went to SoA (we'd been once before and enjoyed it). Maybe we caught it on a bad night. The show itself is cute, and the setting is obviously pretty. For a big group it could be fun.

We did the Spirit of Aloha show last year and enjoyed it. The food is pretty good, free Bud, and tip is included. The show is corny but fun and the finale is great! I think it would be a lot of fun with a large group.

Cheers!
