Spirit big front seat question

Is there only one row of spirit big front seats now? If you are in the front row, do you have to store your purse and all carry-ons in the overhead bin? I am traveling with DH and DS3 and DS2. Taking my DS3's Blankie away from him is not an option!

If there is no under seat storage (such as in bulkhead seats), everything must be stowed in the overhead bins during take-off and landing, although your son should be able to hold a blanket.

There are only 4 of these seats on some Spirit planes; you may have trouble getting all 4.

We travel in the big seats all the time. It depends on the plane how many big seats they have. The Airbus 319 has 10 big seats and the Airbus 320 has 4. If you are in the front row of big seats (which would be all seats on the Airbus 320), your personal bags go in the overhead bins. Your son can keep his blankie!

After MUCH searching and playing with dates, I was able to book 4 big front seats RT. It was a long process but it will be worth it for my family.

I haven't been on this type of aircraft before and I called Spirit since I had so many questions that I could not find answers for on their website.
Interesting though, the person I spoke with told me I could put my belongings under my seat in the front row. It has been a few years since I traveled up front and I thought there was a bar under the first row of seats that makes it impossible to put a computer bag under. Can anyone confirm this?

1) We fly First Class *almost* all the time.
2) Regardless of airline, Front Seats are among the worst Premium/FirstClass *
. . . no place for under-seat storage of personal item(s)
. . . no foot room, as no seat to put feet under, makes for cramping legs

* The exceptions are overseas FirstClass or BusinessClass flights. Also,
some older planes have a small foothole in the bulkhead to set your feet.

The big front seats on Spirit planes have more leg/foot room than any other seats on the plane ( the rest are pretty cramped). There is no place on the floor to put your bags in front of you. There is a little wall in front of you in the first row that precludes that. First row seats must put their bags (either personal or checked) in the overhead bins.

You will have to put everything in the overhead bin for take off and landing. Your son's blankie should be fine. The space under your seat in the first row is for the folks sitting in the second row behind you to place their things.

Definitely 100% certain there is LOTS of legroom in Spirit's Big Front Seats. And certain (as you've already learned) that you must store any items in the overheads.


Here's the problem with that: Spirit has boarding zones, and Zone 1 is reserved for folks who pay for carry-ons. I recently had an experience on a flight where I boarded in Zone 2 with my small backpack (legitimately "personal item" size, not so big that I needed to pay for it as a carry-on) and of course had no choice but to put it in an overhead bin. HOWEVER, people who boarded before me had hogged all of the bin space near me. I had to out my backpack in a bin over Row 6 or 7. It wasn't such a big deal getting it during flight, the problem was I had to stow it again for landing and getting it back after landing was quite difficult. These weren't the friendly skies, I had trouble getting it since after the plane parks everyone jumps up to line up to exit the plane. I would've been the first off the plane (a nice perk of those seats) but I had to swim upstream to get my stuff.

I suppose if you also have to pay for a carry-on then this wouldn't be a problem.

Odd that paying for the Big Front Seats doesn't put you in Zone 1. They come at quite a premium, IMO.

So much bad information is given by airline phone agents; I wonder if some of them have ever flown on their own airline. Could be a problem due to call centers often being located outside of the US.

You cannot store anything under your seat on a plane; that space is for the person behind you. Plus, as noted, there's a bar under the seat.

I agree. I don't like bulkhead seats; don't understand why people put such a premium on them. They often have no more legroom than regular economy seats.

But this doesn't apply to Spirit Airlines' Big Front Seats. There is definitely LOTS of leg room. I fly in Spirit's front row as often as I can (when flying Spirit), so I'm quite experienced with this exact airline. Every time, I've had room to straighten my legs out, and I've had room to comfortably cross my legs (man-style). It's the leg room that I spend the money on, not so much the wider seat.
