Spirit Airlines: Help!!!!

I chose to use Spirit Airlines out of NY for my upcoming trip because I got an unbelievable rate. I've never flown with them before and am a little concerned because they don't allow you to pre-select your seat.

Can anyone who has used Spirit share their experiences with me?

I am using Spirit in June so I'm interested in the replies, too.

A friend of mine just flew Spirit over Christmas and said she had no problems whatsoever.

We have flown Spirit out of Atlantic City to Orlando and/or Ft. Lauderdale many times. Since we fly with kids we always make sure we are there early to check in and get our seating assignments - so far we've never had a problem. This used to make me nervous when the kids were little, but I have actually seen passengers change seats so that parents can sit with their children.

- How early should I arrive at the airport?
- Where are the bathrooms located on the plane?
- Is there an unbearable amount of noise in the back of the plane?

We've also flown with Spirit several times (out of Atlantic City), and haven't had any problems with them whatsoever. Our flights have always been on time(usually arriving in Fl. a tad early ), and great fares, too.

To request certain seats, the key is to arrive early.
In AC, seat assignments are issued on the boarding pass upon check-in, so it's at that time when a request can be made. If most of the other passengers have already checked in, that makes for slim pickings so to speak.

Flying out of Atlantic City so arriving early must be about 4am in the morning since the early flight is 7am.... is that about right????

Is the airport even open at that time?

I've had 2 experiences with Spirit Airlines, one was excellent and the other time we almost crashed and now have a fear of flying

I guess you're more interested in the second part, right? We took off from NYC, and had pretty bad turbulence. We got up to about 25,000 feet finally and about 45 mins into the trip, the oxygen masks came down. Let me tell you, that's a scary thing to occur. We put the masks on and the plane then went into a steep dive. We went from around 25,000 feet to 10,000 feet in about 20-30 seconds. Once at 10,000 the pilot told us that something got jammed that prevented the cabin from pressurizing correctly, hence the need to go to 10,000 feet(At 10,000, you dont need to pressurize the cabin). We then made an emergency landing(thats what the pilot called it) at Atlantic City....probably one of the worst landings i've ever experienced.

I don't blame Spirit per say, as I don't think they did anything to cause it. Everyone was cooperative and they gave us coupons to use on future flights as well as free drinks.

You asked for experiences and that's mine.

I'm very pleased that you made it out of that second one alive (God is good!!).

I guess something like that could happen on any airline but it takes a pretty big person not to lay blame.

We have made several trips out of ACY and have never had a problem. We save a lot of $$$ when traveling with our extended family (the parking is cheaper than a livery service). We try to get to the airport no later than 5:30 for the 7 am flight. I haven't noticed that the planes were any louder than the other commercial smaller flights (ex/ delta express...). The best part (besides the extra $$) is that when you leave at 7am you are in Orlando by 9:15 am.
