Spirit Airlines Financial Difficulty

So far we love Breeze and never have had a problem. Hopefully next month I will not be coming back here to retract this statement (flying with them over the holiday weekend to MCO)
Our Breeze flight in/out of Orlando was a Breeze! I actually was shocked by how much more convenient it was at MCO vs Delta.

Spirit today announced they are going to furlough 1,800 flight attendants...IMO anyone with a reservation to fly over the next few months should most DEFINITELY have a backup plan.

We are in the boat of having reservations on them in February. My wife has mobility issues, so I wanted her to have the Big Comfy Seat (or whatever it is called now) My fare is refundable but apparently only for a credit. I politely asked the representative I finally got through to and said not to be funny, but I told him I don't think that would do me any good. I then called American Express who assured me that if they are out of business before my flight, I could dispute the charges, and they would take care of it. I just they would do it already so I can get a new fare!

One thing about Spirit going under, easy planes for other companies to take. Would take some pressure off of the backlog for almost 200 planes to be able to be cabin adjusted and liveried into other fleets and 50 plus orders out of Airbus' backlog to be redirected to other carriers with cash.

Even if their planes get sold, the issue at many airports is the number of slots for take-offs/landings and gates are already spoken for. At peak times there aren't any more slots available.

Just saw a TV program about how long it takes to repaint an airplane and how much it costs. Clearly they can order new seats & do a repaint, but probably would take several months to redo the entire fleet.

Arnold Palmer must be rolling in his grave. The airport named in his honor, located in Latrobe (outskirts of Pittsburgh) will likely be GROUNDED for life as no other airlines are available-just Spirit. If nothing changes, those in Latrobe may have to drive all the way to Pittsburgh for ANY air service.
