I saw a rat at the AK once and no, it was not suppose to be where it was.
At FW there use to be turkey vultures on the beach. Maybe they're still there but we haven't stayed there in many years because of the following. One morning just after I had gotten up, I heard the most horrible noise coming from under the trailer we were staying in. What ever it was was attempting to get into the trailer through a small grate located in our kitchen. Being from the Northeast, I thought it might be a rabid racoon! So I called the front desk and they said they'd send someone down to check it out. In the meantime, I opened the door and looked outside. The skirting around the trailer was bowing out as whatever this was hit it over and over.
I called back in a total panic and said get someone over her NOW!! By the time they arrived, the animal had left. They found a small opening and told me it was probably an armadillo that had gotten trapped under the trailer.
Same trip and same location, gigantic palmetto bugs in our trailer. That was the last time I ever stayed at FW.
I love the bird life at WDW. POFQ is a great place to enjoy the birds as is CSR. Herons, ducks, all kinds of birds. I've seen deer grazing on the edge of the highway in numerous spots and snakes twice at TL.
Now for the duck story. Let me say I really do love all types of animals but this was just too weird. One night at EPCOT they were shooting off the fireworks and a duck must have gotten spooked by the explosion. It took off and flew right into one of the shells and, umm, no more duck. The group of people around me all looked at each other and said, did we just see that?
There is a small pond on the street across from DTD where all the hotels are. In it are some of the biggest snapping turtles I've ever seen. I've also seen turtles in the channel that connects EPCOT to MGM.
But the coolest animals I've seen at WDW were spotted on one of the roads leading into FW. It was a group of 4 river otters. Even the bus driver was amazed. They crossed the road right in front of the bus and we stopped and watched them for a while.
