How does it look and how does it fit?
Not sure how they can do a good job. My wife just got a crown, and the dentist did the prep, then we had to make an appointment with the independent dental lab elsewhere that was making the crown to have them match the color of my wife's teeth, then 10 days later we had to do back to the lab for a final color check before they finished it, then to the dentist for the installation. About a 3 week process.

My parents dentist does this it is a special machine Mom has had one for several years no problem. Dad had one that kept falling off but I think that was more to do with that the tooth it was on just didn't have enough left to it to hold it.

One of my former coworkers went to a dentist that milled the crowns while you waited. He never had a problem with bad fitting crowns or crowns coming loose.

CEREC crowns are ones that can be made on site same day using 3D technology vs traditional ones that are sent out to a lab to be created using molds. There are pros and cons to each. Make sure your dentist has a conversation with you about why they have selected the option they have for you.

I have a CEREC crown and a traditional one done by different dentists. I found out my CEREC crown was done incorrectly and is not ideally placed. It is not causing problems now, but it likely will in the future and I really should have it redone. My current dentist offers both CEREC and traditional crowns and explained to me that for my mouth and the teeth involved (back molars), I'm better off with a traditional crown because I'll get a better fit among other things. The CEREC crowns can cost more and my dentist could have made a quick buck off of me without me knowing, but I appreciate that he took the time to explain why he was recommending the particular course of treatment and it happened to be the cheaper option!

My dentist does crowns in house / while you wait. IMHO they are as good as, even superior, to any that I had before. I find they fit better. I have not had problems with any crown he has done in office.

I have a front top tooth that has a crown made in house at a dentist office. Best experience ever. Best crown I have ever had.

I have a crown on one of my molars and it was a great experience. Best fitting crown I ever got and I loved not having to go back 3 times to get it done.

I don't understand why you would have to go elsewhere for the color match. And twice. My dentist just used the color swatches and ordered the correct color. Maybe different if it was a front tooth? Mine were molars, and really, you can't tell the difference in color so I don't think a precise match is all that necessary.

Front tooth. My previous Dentist did the same thing. Most interesting thing is most teeth are not one color, they have streaks of color. They matched that in my wife's case. And there are 8,000 colors.
