Hi My DD10 just had Spinal Fusion Surgery 2wks ago for severe scoliosis. Has anyone else had this and how was the recovery? Everytime we went to dr's and they asked for allergies we always said none. Now we have a list of Narcotics that are nooooo good. Fusion was from T1 to hips. I am slowly losing my mind and hope that I will still be functional when she is better.

My 13 year old has lordosis and is having the rods put in on May 3rd. I'm worried about the recovery because she has spina bifida and is unable to walk so I worry about having to lift her. She on the other hand just wants to be sure she can ride thounder mountain next winter.

My twin girls had rods put in before Christmas.

Both DH and I have fused parts of our spines. Each kid just like adults heal in their own time.

My DS10 had a spinal fusion (C1-C7) done 2 years ago this past March.
He was in vest and halo device for about 6 months after the surgery.
He was up and cruising the hallways of the rehab floor, the very next day.
We were told he would need extensive therapy for about 4-6 weeks, but he did so well, therapy wasn't needed for longer than a few days and we were discharged in about a week. Everyone heals differently, I think the recovery time for my son was so quick because he has been through so much in his 10 years, at least 5 surgeries, that he has just become accustomed to the discomfort, that nothing slows him down!

We went to WDW 1 year after his fusion and followed the doctors instructions - NO roller coasters, NO Tower of Terror, NO Dinosaur and in general - nothing that was going to bouncy him all over the place. It was my understanding that these would be our guidelines forever. Not that he was a big fan of any of these things before the surgery.

I'd expect 6 months to 1 year. My spine fused much faster because I happen to also have fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, the disease that fuses all your joints.

I do go on BTM and dinosaur, but don't do RNR, the other mountains or ToT.

Wow. This brings back some memories. I had T 3 to L 4 fused 36 years ago last month. No rods cause they were experimental in those days. I was in the hospital from November 1 to july 3. To all you Moms, now that I am a Mom I understand what my sainted went through. She never missed a day visiting me, even in a blizzard when all the nurses told me she could not come, Ma came. Anyway, before I start crying, hang on. Your kids will get better! Just keep telling them you can get better together. God bless my Mother. How often she walked with me round and round and round our dining room table to help me rebuild my leg muscles till i was strong enough to leave the house! Hope you all have fabulous trips!
