On the other thread, it is becoming evident that no one is happy any longer with the Travel Channel. What would you add/ subtract if you were in charge?:surfweb:

For me, I wish they would simply add some actual travel shows. Ones that arent 5 years old. If you think about it, the small amount of shows that they have are lame. Disney (as much as I love it), beaches, waterparks, and cruise ships. Lame. How about travel places across the world? Places that we haven't heard of and might find intriguing? Amaze me! Make me actually want to .....TRAVEL! Maybe a series on tours in far off places. Can't you guys find some sort of travel industry sponsorship to help you promote far off places? :confused3

If i was in charge first thing i would do is get rid of Bourdain... and get some actual travel shows like they used to have:surfweb:

The pale imitation of travel channel we get in the Uk is useless...

80% Spain, Greece or Eastern Europe, 10% Asia... and 10% cooking around the world type programs... what? Send that to the food channel!

and no WDW.

So to sum up I would add other destinations, especially WDW (no bias... honest!)

Bring back new Samantha Brown shows. She always had interesting places and ideas.

I'd like to see a show on outdoor/adventure travel. It doesn't have to be extreme adventure either. It could be more family oriented, white water rafting, high ropes courses (there's a great one in Garmisch Germany), horse ranch vacations, sailing, etc. I'm a little tired of watching luxury hotels and luxury cruise ships. wooo fun.... a marble vanity top and a gold plated faucet...yawn.

Bourdain just dump him. Zimmerman(well I like him as a host)but not have what nasty food can we show on tv during dinner time. The guy who does man vs. food, really, what a wonderful show of gluttony I am surprised if he doesn't just keel over early from a heart attack.

Some new shows, I also second bringing Samantha Brown back. I do like the shows about 10 ten things to do in Hawaii, but up to date that stuff and broad it out to other places.

Ghost Adventures on the travel channel: drop that. He is so hokey and honestly I wish a spirit would kick his butt just for calling it out.

Bert the Conquerer: I waiver back and forth about him. I do like seeing the rides and people scream on them, but i think he would be a good host on another travel related show.

I actually find more travel-worthy fare on HGTV's House Hunters than I do Travel Channel! I'd love to see programs geared towards adult destinations, family friendly destinations and maybe a niche or two like one devoted to shopping/dining around the world.

I'm all about the national parks. How about a series that explores all 58 national parks? The Ken Burns documentary was amazing, but I need more.

Yes, I hate the fact that the Travel Channel has become the "let's eat vast amounts of gross food" channel and also that the History Channel has become the "People with Weird Jobs" channel.

I haven't watched the Travel Channel in months although I always skim past in the guide to see if they have something, ANYTHING, on besides Bourdain (who I hate) or a show about eating. So far, nope.

I agree with you, OP, I'd love to see some shows about actual TRAVEL.

New Samantha Brown's....

New series similar to the ones Rick Steves used to do...he explored places in depth.

Anything but Bourdain and Man vs. Food.

.

OMG! I loved Rick Steves, sometimes I catch reruns on a pbs channel. Watching his shows inspired me to take a 2 week trip to Europe and I don't go without my money belt.

I agree with bringing Samantha Brown back, especially "Great Hotels", and would love to see her review Bed & Breakfast places too. There used to bea B&B show on years ago, I really miss that. I never watch anything with Anthony Bourdain, he annoys me. I'd love to see some of the all inclusive places like Beaches and Sandals, and a show about the Caribbean islands, national parks, Alaska, Hawaii. Just more...travel shows.

I love love love Samantha Brown, wish they did more of her in Europe. Get rid of all the food shows except Boudain, he actually explores the off beaten paths and introduces new ideas about how to be a traveler and not a tourist. Maybe some sort of show where I could actually afford to stay at the places they are presenting.

Shows involving travel, would be a good place to start.....

To many channels have lost their way, and have little relation to what their original premise was.

There is (or at least was) wrestling on the SciFy channel....MTV hasn't played video's on a regular basis in years, Poker shows on the travel channel and so on.....

The first thing I would do is bring back travel shows not involving food. Secondly, new Samantha Brown programs all the way. I don't mind ghost adventures I find myself watch it at times. At least, it not food show. Finally, Can someone at the travel channel decided if the channel about travel or food. Because it need to change the name to Food channel two or Food Travel channel. The travel channnel need to get back to travel already.

I want them to have shows about TRAVEL. Not eating contests. Not ghosts stories. Travel. It's pretty simple. :goodvibes

Seriously, let's see some show with travel ideas. Budget travel, moderate travel, luxury travel. Travel in North America. Travel abroad. Show us what's out there! Makes us want to go places and show us how to get there! That's what I want.

Amen to that. The travel channel is the reason I want to go finally on a cruise. I watch the Samantha Brown special for DCL and two weeks later I booked my first cruise. Nowadays on the travel channel all it makes me want to do to is go to kitchen and munch.

The first show I would do would be a series on budget US travel. Call it something like "road trip" and feature regular and off the path tourist attractions. I'd have it be something that reminds people of their own family vacations. Maybe even feature a different family/couple/individual on a trip each episode. Or maybe tell viewers what places are coming up and have people send in their own snapshots or videos for a segment at the end.

Years ago there was a show on tv that was a college aged kid bumming around Europe with his video camera sending home a video diary. I don't remember anything about it other than how much I enjoyed it. My siblings, parents, and I all live apart but would call each other to discuss this show. I'd watch something like that again too.
