OK, experts, trying to save some money...

Situation 1:
Pick up car at MCO ~2PM on a Friday. Driving to Ft. Lauderdale that day. Can either return the car Friday night or Saturday morning (no later than 11AM). I still pay 1 day rental, right?

Situation 2:
Pick up car at FLL on a Saturday sometime after 8AM. Return the car to MCO sometime before 1PM on Monday. Do I pay for two days plus 5 hours? Do I pay 3 days? Do I kill time in Lauderdale so I only have the car two days (48 hours)?

Any other suggestions? We arrive in MCO at 1:30PM on Friday, cruise out of Lauderdale Saturday morning, return the following Saturday, and fly out of MCO @ 3PM Monday. Those times are locked.

I don't know if rental car companies do hourly rates - when I've rented cars in the past, they give you a hour or so as a grace period, but after that, you have to pay for the next day (so the 2 days plus 5 hours would be three day fee).

a. one day rental
b. Three day rental. Most places now only give a 29 min. grace period and switch over to a daily rate after 2 hours.

That's what I was afraid of. Now to debate if I want to kill time (with no transportation and luggage) in Lauderdale before picking up the car. :P

Thanks

Don't waste 5 hours; rent the darn car for 3 days. BTW, with many companies, when you rent on Saturday and return by noon on Monday, you qualify for the weekend rate. So the 3 days may not be all that bad. Book the best rate now so that you have something and then watch closely. Rebook as the rates drop.
