Mine guessed me for Arizona, which is way off. However, my actual location (Central Ohio) is also pretty dark.

(EDIT: I just re-took it and changed two answers from "what I say" to "what most people say" and the new result was Columbus, OH, which is accurate. I say "soda" (picked that up from my in-laws who are from St. Louis), but grew up saying "pop." I also changed my answer for "crayon" from how I pronounce it (cray-on) to how my parents pronounce it (cran).)

It said Orlando, Tallahassee and San Antonio for me. I'm a native Floridian who has also lived in GA and TN. It looks like the San Antonio thing came from:

Q: What do you call the small road parallel to the highway?
A: Access road

So the questions are different?
I didn't have the parallel to highway or crayon ones

This was fun!

I’ve lived in Toronto most of my life, but my family has lived all over Canada, mostly on the East coast.

My match was Honolulu Hawaii. :rotfl:

I’ve always wanted to vacation there, and now I know if I do, my dialect will be a perfect match. :)

That was fun!!

it did put me where I live now, city-wise, but also with some red on the map where I grew up and a bit on the west coast as well - not sure where that part came from.

The trick for me was "do I answer it with what I'd prefer to say, or with what I would need to say to make myself understood where I live?" I kind of split the difference, because I've been here 30 years now.

Yeah - I had a difference for some in what I used to say and what I’ve learned to say.

lol. True. I said sub. I didn’t go down the list much further but I wonder if dagwood was on there. That’s what my great grandfather called them.

The sandwich question was definitely one of those. I can think of two restaurants around here where I would order the same sandwich by different names, and I grew up with a third.

I just watched DS14 take the quiz and some of the questions were different.

I’m pretty sure there are “trigger” questions that will lead it to ask you different follow-ups to narrow it down.

Says I’m like Florida which is the complete opposite of the prairies of Canada. I would never move to Florida because it’s way too hot. Right now, outside, it’s snowing and it looks like a snow globe. I am where I’m supposed to be.

The first city for me was Philadelphia. The second map pointed to Baltimore, and it's been said that Baltimore and Philly have similar accents. I'm impressed but not surprised because my Philly accent is very heavy and when I'm around family or friends I speak in a fast dialect that most people would find incomprehensible.

Oh rats, I didn't scroll down to see specific cities. But the map had me in the darkest red area, so yeah, it was accurate.

And I did not have the crayon question, so there must be different ones.

NYC. I knew it would be correct after the first question.

Yeah, but there are some variations even within the NYC metro area, eg. between Brooklyn, the Bronx, Long Island, northern New Jersey, CT, etc. And especially on LI, some of it is influenced by where your parents came from.

For example, I would never say “youse”, but recognize that as distinctly Brooklyn. Also dislike “you guys”, though many here say it and it has spread everywhere.

And it seems the quiz doesn’t have a differentiater for the different NY dialects. Seems Newark, Yonkers, NYC is the default 3 city answer for anyone from that entire area. No Long Island answer or different borough of the city. Just all lumped together.

Im definitely a “you guys” person and I’ve had some weird looks down here in Tampa now where most are more used to “y’all”.
