So do you think WDW should be open today? A lot of people think stores should be closed because its a holiday and you should spend time with your family... what about the thousands of people working to keep the parks open today?

Not trying to spark any debates, just wondering what some thoughts are on it.

My opinion, if you have employees willing to work, open up if it will benefit you. I personally hate thanksgiving so I always hit some stores and usually a movie... Also, in this area, there are always so many people from other countries that don't celebrate thanksgiving, I don't see how they could close.

To each their OWN:rolleyes1

I agree. If there is a benefit then by all means open up. In the case of WDW that is how so people want to spend time with their families. When it comes to shopping that is what some people choose to do. Most people don't want to spend their entire day off in the house so if there is the chance for them get out and do some shopping that they may not be able to get done otherwise because the work a lot or whatever then it is great there is the opportunity.

As for the people who have to work, more often than not people don't mind. In most cases they get time and a half and holiday pay so it is made worth their while and not everyone either celebrates Thanksgiving or has someone to celebrate with. For those that do most of them get to spend time with their families at some point during the day. My friends husband works for Toysrus and they had plenty of employees that wanted to work because of the extra compensation they were getting.

I don't see why that would be a problem. I'd love to go to WDW on Thanksgiving. And I wouldn't mind working at WDW on the holidays either.

I worked many holidays at Disney. Unless you have high seniority, or you bid those days off, you're gonna be working it.

Like I would have Tues/Wens off, so if Christmas fell on Tuesday, I got to have it off (we were usually on 6 days, so I'd have to work the other day). Other than the rare chance, you just learned to celebrate a few days earlier, or really late at night. Last year's Thanksgiving was celebrated on Wednesday because that was the day every one had off.

I wish they would have limited hours on holidays- say close by 6 or 7. I was lucky enough to get today off because Thursday is my regular "weekend", but most of my co-workers did not get that luxury. In additions, interns (which make a decent % of those working on holidays) do NOT get holiday pay, and are often forced into mandatory OT. Even working a half day would be nice, but I know many who were scheduled 6am-11pm. This will also happen for Christmas and New Years..

It's the price we pay for working in the hospitality industry. It's nice to see all the guests with their families having a great time, but we wish we could be with ours too!
