Well, not wanting to feed into a troll (anyone who has that username to begin with... I might not rave about all of the food at Disney, but I surely wouldn't stave, I could live off of Mickey Bars and Dole Whips alone )

I did want to make a point~

We did dine at two signatures on our recent trip and several TS restaurants and felt there could have been some more flavor in the food. That being said, just a little more cracked pepper or salt would have done the trick...

why the heck don't the Signatures and TS have salt and pepper on the tables or offer freshly ground cracked pepper like most "real world" restaurants do?

I asked for salt and pepper at Yachtsman Steakhouse and never got it. I kind of feel that was a "our food is perfectly prepared" attitude and did not appreciate it.

Just some good ol' S and P please!

:flower3:

Some TS do have salt and pepper, but apparently not all.:confused3 I would just ask for some, and then insistently ask again if it wasn't immediately forthcoming.

I can understand there being none at a signature restaurant. As with any fine dining establishment in North America, and almost universally in Europe, it is to be assumed that the chef knows how to properly season the dish that he is preparing thus the salt and pepper would be unecessary; and so you frequently do not see them on every table. But even in these restaurants, if you were to request them, they would be provided at once.

I have a personal distaste for the server who serves a meal and whips out a gigantic pepper mill, asking if you want some. Give me a chance to taste my food for heaven sake. Who adds seasoning without tasting it first?

But to each his own.

Just wanted to add that I didn't mean to come off sounding snarky or dismissive of your concerns. But I think your problem about not getting the S&P that you requested was the fault of your server, and not the restaurant pr se.

Definitely not the problem most of their food has, that's for sure!

:) I've finally convinced my husband to take ONE taste of the food I make, before adding his hot sauce concoctions... He does this rooster/tabasco/tio something sauce combo for most of his food (and that's when he's not throwing Korean spicy bean paste onto things).

How could any restaurant salt and pepper the food perfectly for everyone? My dh doesn't like much salt, I like lots of salt. It is common for my dh to refuse to eat something he says is "too salty," while I am sitting across from him lavishly salting the same dish on my plate, because it isn't salty enough for me. I ususally salt my food without tasting it, because in my experience no one, anywhere, any time, puts enough salt on the food. That doesn't mean it isn't seasoned properly, just that I like more salt that is proper, apparently. And I don't care for added pepper for some reason (I don't mind if it's cooked with the food, just don't want it added later).

I have been tempted to bring my own salt shaker with me to restaurants that don't have salt on the tables, or that offer salt crystals in grinders (which I find doesn't taste the same as table salt, and I don't really like it), but I haven't actually done it yet, mostly because I keep forgetting!

Wow, that is just like my husband. He even makes his own concoction like that! :rotfl:

From watching a lot of food shows on TV ;), I know it's a chef's feeling that they don't ever like to put s&p on the table as a rule unless asked for because it indicated that their seasoning isn't what it SHOULD be. I speculate that if a chef has a ton of control over the dining room that those are the palces you don't see it, not that it means th opposite if you do though. I was actually really surprised to see it at Shulas. In my expericens, even the highest buck places still often have it. In fact, I do try to remmeber to look everywhere we go (even at home too) and I don't think I've come across one that didn't where I was actually payng attention. But I also think it not being there just made me not notice it's absense in as much as seeing it there made me notice it. if that makes ANY sense.;)
