Spin-Off from Prom Dress Thread: Do You Still Have Your...

I don't have any of my "special" dresses left but I still enjoy all my pics of them. :)

I still have the dress i wore to my graduation. My mom made it. I don't have my wedding dress. I knew I would never wear it again and didn't see the point in storing it, so I figured somebody else could use it and gave it away.

I wish I had my wedding gown...a tornado took it away 9 months after our wedding ...it was a one of a kind and I dreamed of any future children being able to include something (or the entire dress if they wanted to) in their weddings if they chose to get married, but my daughters never got a chance to even see it. I do still have my senior prom dress because my sister had it to wear for one of her proms, so it wasn't at our home when the tornado hit. Maybe one of my girls will want to wear it...doubt it, but it's a nice thought.

DD16 tried on my prom dress last summer and we couldn't zip it. She is 15 lbs lighter than I was in HS and really slim. It was a happy/sad moment to realize I was around her size back then. I should have enjoyed that time more when I could wear anything!

My mom had a 21 inch waist in high school. I put on her prom dress when I was 8 and that was the last time it probably would have fit. I mean I was like a size 5 or so in high school, but 21 inches is crazy.

A couple of years ago, when DD15 was in 8th grade, she decided on a Saturday that she wanted to go to the middle school formal the following Saturday. We were at the in-laws and had no opportunities to go shopping anywhere that would have nice dresses, other than a thrift store on the way home from Grandma's. Grandma took her upstairs to look at DD's aunts' prom dresses, which were from the 80s-90s and a no-go. Then Grandma pulled out a dress that she had worn as a bridesmaid in the early 60s. It was 50s style light yellow chiffon with a tea-length, full skirt. DD used that for her formal!
