Grad/Prom Dress, Wedding Gown and/or any Bridesmaid Dresses you've worn?

  • Grad Dress (1985): No - that was 30+ years ago. I couldn't even guess where it might have ended up.
  • Wedding Gown #1 (1985): I stuffed it in a garbage bag and left it behind with the rest of the rubbish.
  • Wedding Gown #2 (1995) - I've still got it, but 15 or so years ago I loaned it to a friend and when it was returned I noticed it had a big stain on the front. I never bothered to have it re-cleaned and preserved the second time.
  • Vows-renewal Gown (2005): Hanging pristinely in the muslin dry-cleaning bag. I haven't actually looked at it in years.
  • Bridesmaid Dresses: I've only been a bridesmaid once, about 25 years ago. I ended up giving the dress - an emerald green satin abomination - to the bride's daughter (after she came along) for dress-up.:p

Not sure . My grad dress was home made so maybe my mom has it tucked away somewhere. We tried forever to sell my first wedding dress but no one wanted it. For a while we couldn't even give it away lol

Then, my mom found a place that uses the dresses to make smaller outfits for babies to be buried in. After we had a good cry thinking about how pure it was, we gave them the dress.

My prom dress was from being a bridesmaid. Still have it and the shoes and purse that went with it.....from 1970
Wedding dress I also still have with shoes.....in storage from 1974

edited to add my mother of the groom dress......still have that one too.....hanging in my closet. I would still wear it but it needs to be altered. From 2005

I was going to "like" this, but somehow that just didn't seem quite right. :flower3: A very kind (and I'm sure necessary, unfortunately) gesture but too grim a thought to linger on.

I've been cleaning the attic in recent months. I know my wedding gown is up there. I just haven't gotten to it yet. I'm sort of afraid to look (It's just in a regular box and I'm afraid of moth holes or something). I made it, and I'd really like to take a close look again 30+ years later.

:goodvibes LOL - I should have also asked what sizes they were (but nobody might have answered). I'm a weirdo and retain pointless personal trivia :o. Grad dress was a 3, first wedding gown was a 5 (bridal is always cut small for some reason), bridesmaid dress was a 7, 2nd wedding gown was custom-made but probably around an 8 and vows-renewal gown was a 10. :scratchin I wonder if I could still get into that last dress...

No prom dresses. I still have my wedding dress from 24 years ago preserved in a box. I want to donate it because 1) I'm not really sentimental about it and 2) It takes up a ton of space in my closet. When I told DH to grab it with the last run of donations, he threw a fit. Not sure why he would be so attached to it, but he wanted me to keep it.

I still have both prom dresses and my wedding dress (it's preserved).

Prom dress, it got lost in one of many moves I've made since graduating high school.
Wedding dress, I still have hanging in the closet in a dry cleaning bag. We had a quick civil ceremony in a restaurant planned in two weeks. My dress was of a rack in the juniors dept of Sears. I think it was in the prom dress section.
Any bridesmaids dresses are long gone. I was a bridesmaid in the days of atrocious poofy dresses in ugly bright garish colors.

Wedding dress is preserved, but it's in a solid box, so I guess I can't really be sure it's the right one until (if) one of my nieces wants it.

Prom dress and one bridesmaid dress donated to a charity that let's girls in need "shop" for prom dresses without cost.

One bridesmaid dress still in out-of-season clothes closet because I was supposed to have it shortened and wear it for fancy events but never did, and now I'm sure it's too small, so I should donate that one too!

I haven't kept my wedding dress, bridesmaid dress. I didn't go to prom.

My mom keeps everything, & she has kept all of mine & my sister's "special event" dresses in one of their downstairs closets.

So, yes, in a roundabout way, I have all my dresses - they're just at my parents' house:

8th grade Homecoming Dress - long light pink dress w/ a full hoop skirt
9th grade Homecoming Dress - long yellow dress w/ a full hoop skirt
10th grade Homecoming Dress - long blue dress w/ a full hoop skirt
11th grade Homecoming Dress - long light pink & white lace dress w/ a full hoop skirt - I was crowned Queen in this dress
12th grade Homecoming Dress - long black velvet dress w/ a straight skirt - I crowned the next Queen in this dress

11th grade Jr/Sr Banquet Dress (we didn't have proms) - short emerald green lace & black silk dress
12th grade Jr/Sr Banquet Dress - short white lace dress

Navy Blue Bridesmaid Dress
Light Blue Bridesmaid Dress

Wedding Dress

Plus, all my cheerleading uniforms are stored as well.

DH & I have been married for 22 years this coming April, &, over the years, I've gotten everything that was ever mine out of my parents' house - except for all my dresses & cheerleading uniforms! LOL!

My sister, on the other hand, has all kinds of stuff still at their house, including all her special event dresses.

My wedding dress is preserved in a box in my closet, and there are two bridesmaid dresses shoved in the back of the closet, as well.

My mom recently brought me all my homecoming/prom dresses. A couple are for entertainment value only... DDs had a good laugh at the early '90s poofy sleeves. Prom '94 dress is red sequin, halter top with short, flared skirt. Cute, but not the style I see girls wearing now. The other is just a long black satin slinky thing with a slit up the thigh. Actually, it could probably be worn for a formal occasion now without looking too dated. (Of course it couldn't be worn by ME; I'd be lucky to get one leg in that thing now, lol)

There is one homecoming dress I still LOVE, and it would actually be perfect for DD's 8th grade graduation. We'll see if I can convince her to even try it on.

I doubt anyone would want a 24 year old wedding dress! My 23 year old one is in the attic, it's pretty simple, but still dated. I joke with my daughters about who gets to wear it!

I don't have any of my dresses. I have been married for almost 30 years and I did keep my wedding dress for around 15 years. I wasn't sentimental about it and it just took up too much space. At our transfer station/town dump, there is a place to put clothes for others to go through and take what they want. I put the dress there. Much to my delight a few months later, I spotted my dress on a mannequin in town in front of our historical society!!!! It was so funny!! I have been in 11 weddings and didn't keep any of the bridesmaid dresses. I gave those to a friend who had little girls and they used them for dress up.

I don't have any of those except for my wedding dress. I tried to fit into it to wear for dress up day at Spirit Week this week, but it would only zip up halfway. :(. I had forgotten how heavy it was, though!

I did not keep my graduation gown, but MIL kept DH's, so I wear his gown to commencement at my school (we attended the same college).

This is a fun topic!

Let's see...

I still have my handmade baptism and 1st communion gowns that my grandmother made. If I had girls they would have worn them, but I'm hoping I'll maybe have granddaughters I can pass them on to. We were able to use DH's baptism suit for both of our boys though.

I wore the same dress for my confirmation and for graduation under my robe. It got too small and I ended up giving it away.

I got asked by a good friend to Prom my junior year at the last minute so I ended up borrowing a friend's sister's dress. Looking back that thing was awful so I wouldn't have held onto it if it was mine! I still have my prom dress from my senior year. It is a very timeless and classic style in black so I actually wore it to the ballet and opera and I think a musical too that DH and I attended. I haven't tried it on in years so not sure if it still fits.

My wedding dress was not a traditional one. DH and I just got married originally at the JoP since he was getting ready to ship off to basic training and we didn't want a big wedding anyway. We did a vow renewal and convalidation ceremony in the church for our 17th anniversary and I was able to wear the same dress so it was really special. I haven't put it on in the 3 years since so I may not be able to squeeze into it anymore.

I have only been a bridesmaid twice- for my two bff's from high school. One is Indian so I got to wear a beautiful traditional gown that her aunt loaned me. The other picked a pretty and classic Wedgewood blue gown that I wore once again to an event and I still have.

I kind of wished I still had all my dance costumes just to look back at. When we moved to SC 18 years ago I ended up donating them all to my former dance studio, even the ones from my high school dance/drill team, for other girls to use for competitions. I figured it would save some parents money and let more girls have the opportunity to compete.
