Spin-off Do you skip or ignore certain posters?

Right after we found out amberpi passed away there was a thread about DIS’ers that have abruptly stopped posting. Of all of the names mentioned, @Gumbo4x4’s disappearance is the most mysterious. :(
I'll just say I'm not really that shocked and leave it at that. Although confirmation that he's OK would be great.

Maybe he decided to take a reallllllllllllly long vacation..

I haven't looked at my ignore list in a while, but I do have one. I think some of them are long gone posters. They are mostly people who have disagreed with me over STUPID stuff and it just grates on my nerves and I don't have time for that.

The ones who are really entertaining I have to keep reading because of the entertainment factor.

I had to look, but I have two people on ignore. I don't remember why I ignored one of them. The other was because of constant woe is me posts. It just got old. I really don't know if they still post here. I tend to ignore certain types of posts. It hasn't anything to do with the person. I'm just not interested in those topics.

I have put several people on Facebook on limited. They post too many political things which tend to be hateful. I don't unfriend them because I do like them. I just don't like all the hate filled posts.

Speaking of suddenly missing DISers.....I wonder what happened to Floridaman999. He seemed very nice and could be funny. Miss you DISers.

I don't have anyone on ignore - there's (at least) one I probably should, but man, you've got to be aware of the crazy that people are capable of...can't pretend it doesn't exist in this world. But I also get that many are here to get away from that type of thing.

And I'm another that doesn't mind the "fluff" threads - I don't always have time to participate in them, but I do enjoy reading them.

I had to go and look--I only have one active member on ignore.

I have a couple of posters on ignore who haven't posted in many years. One claimed to be a travel agent, and yet gave horrible advice to people on the boards. She would say that connecting rooms are always guaranteed, and that Disney would never downgrade someone if they had a room issue, only upgrade them. She messaged me to stop contradicting her:rolleyes:, and claimed I was ruining vacations. And then called me a bunch of names.

I was surprised to see I have four posters on ignore. Two I know why, the other two I have no idea.

I am both annoyed and amused by hyperbole and exaggeration, i.e. "always", "forever", etc., but that wouldn't cause me to ignore someone, either visually or technologically.

I do have a few people on ignore. I don't want to see the endless stream of "name a song with the letter Q in the title" or "what is your favorite color of fruit" threads
Hmm...I wonder if threads like these might be better suited for the Games subforum?
In my time here, I've put 1 poster on Ignore. He really liked to Bicker. But he doesn't post very much anymore (or if he does I don't see it).
I think not at all. Yup, not since 2011. I used to know where that person lived.

That’s awful.

I don't have anyone on ignore. There are posters whose posts I'll skip over sometimes depending on how long the thread is and how much of the discussion is just rehashing what's been said in the previous 20 pages.
In general though there is nobody here that I feel has to be ignored all the time.

I was also surprised to see someone on my ignore list. I remember that it was for starting lots of threads that weren't conversational. (I won't say specifically what they were because it's very identifying!)

I do not have anyone on ignore.
I will not read threads from two peeps on here. One, as another diser wrote; to confusing to follow. And the other, I feel posts nothing useful, I have wondered if they just post to increase their thread count.

I read the posts that interest me and I ignore, the unhelpful or negative responses that I feel are not helpful or needed to be even added to the thread. And once a squabble starts in a thread, I abandon ship .

I have 1 person on my ignore list. IIRC it was due to them hurling insults in the "crazy ex-wife" thread a couple weeks ago. I figured anyone that handled themselves that poorly wasn't worth reading posts from in the future.

I don't have anyone on my ignore list. I'm sure I'm about to share a very unpopular thought.

But I'll be honest there lots of people/postings I skip over. Frankly almost any "controversial" topic the same 3-5 people on each "side" show up and then fight to the death of a beaten horse. I am fine with people not having same thoughts, likes, or opinions of myself. I don't like people that want to one up, be close minded or just have to have the last word or 500 words. There are times I wished we have a word maximum post like twitter.

Even if others say they don't remember anything about other posters, I must be one of the few that does or at least admits that I do. It's difficult not to remember when people share so much or make such statements or post the same thing over and over that it leaves an impression.

I don't have anyone on ignore. I will skip over posts if I don't find them interesting or if someone writes a novel.

Same here. I don't have anyone set to ignore. - I would think threads would be confusing with "holes" in them.

I do skip over posts sometimes, especially really long ones or when people get arguing with each other (and of course I don't open every thread to begin with. - There just isn't time!)

And I'm another that doesn't mind the "fluff" threads - I don't always have time to participate in them, but I do enjoy reading them

Yeah, I don't get the backlash either. Sometimes "fluff" threads are why I log on! They're just fun. :)

This is a spin-off from the Anonymous Poster thread.
I notice some people saying that they skip or ignore and have on “Ignore” other DIS posters. I think this brings up an interesting topic!

I am just wondering, why and how any of you would do this.
It looks like those who do skip or ignore other posters do this because they basically happen to disagree with and therefore do not like the other person. Not because the other person goes after them and maybe personally attacks them.

I guess, if this is generally true, would it not be the ultimate of only wanting to hear what you want to hear?
I guess it would not really be censorship. But would that not be a purposeful and personal way of censorship?

I do not skip or ignore. I don’t know why I would want to do that? There have been those that purposefully try to come at me, and even some personal attacks. I can easily see that right away, and either just blow it off or, if necessary, state that will just not “engage”

Over the years here, I've had 3 or 4 on ignore. They may have actually been reincarnated posters of the same person. Reason was they (or maybe just he) posted in a way to truly hurt people. Not physically obviously, but mentally. Whether replies or new threads, they/he were sadistic. A true sadist with people here. I think he reveled with the more he could hurt people. When he (I do think the other names were actually him) first started doing this, I was a moderator on the cb. Could not ignore him then, sort defeats the ability to moderate. :) But once I quit that, he was on ignore immediately. I would say all his names are banned and he is gone. Have not seen him in years. But while he was here, a real piece of human garbage.

If you use the new posts button it gets pretty annoying as people generally reply to the "count to xxxx" threads all at once and they'll be a good portion of 1 page.
