Spin-off Do you skip or ignore certain posters?

I only have one poster on ignore, but it has nothing to do with their stances on controversial topics or their beliefs. Their posting style was/is extremely hard to read, so I felt it was easier to put them on ignore.

And since OP brought it up, disagreeing with someone, even "harshly", does not always equate to a "personal attack".

There are times at work that I have to deal with people that I dont want to, I'm not going to choose to do that in my free time. I go right on past several posters, not because I dislike people who dont agree with me or that I'm afraid of personal attacks but because who needs it? Sometimes seeing some of the less favorable posts brings out a snarkiness in me that I work hard to stifle so I try and avoid it both ways altogether.

I ignore one here on the Dis. On another Disney site, I go against rules and actually ignore one moderate which makes the website soooo much better....don’t know why she has to be so mean and obnoxious. I don’t post to this website, so no reason for her to contact me.

I choose to ignore the people who I feel are excessively negative. They are the types that don’t add anything constructive to conversations. They generally speak in hyperbole and interrupt positive conversations to interject a negative opinion that really doesn’t fit the conversation.

I try not to put too many people on ignore because it can make threads confusing to read.

That said I do have 3 or 4 people on ignore. Not because I disagree with them. But because they are overly pedantic and just won't let things go. It makes for a much better reading experience.

I'm sorry this is off topic, but did anyone ever hear from @Gumbo4x4 since he stopped posting? He seemed like a very nice guy, and I really hope nothing is wrong.

He used to post regularly on the college thread with a bunch of us, but just abruptly stopped posting. Sorry to see him leave. I hope everything is OK.

I do have a few people on ignore. I don't want to see the endless stream of "name a song with the letter Q in the title" or "what is your favorite color of fruit" threads.

Same here. No offense, but not interested in an endless stream of "Name a song with...." or "If you were a famous chicken, who would you be" threads.

I have a couple on ignore, but only because their posts made me want to bang my head on my keyboard. I honestly forgot they existed until this thread came up.

I had one on ignore for awhile, she is very rude and was quite nasty to me a couple of times. I did take her off ignore later though, she doesn’t post a lot so when I do see a thread she started I just scroll on by. I don’t put people on ignore just because they have a different opinion than mine. We can still be kind and respectful and I actually enjoy reading different viewpoints.

Right after we found out amberpi passed away there was a thread about DIS’ers that have abruptly stopped posting. Of all of the names mentioned, @Gumbo4x4’s disappearance is the most mysterious. :(

I ignore rude people in real life and I do the same online, too. Same thing if the person makes a personal attack or if the person takes everything as a personal offense all the time when it clearly wasn't intended that way. Or if the person turns everything into a religious or political issue and wants to fight about it.

Same here. Maybe 2 or 3 people. It has nothing to do with their points of view but they are so tenacious about making their point and I found it tiresome to wade through.

I found out I had some how put someone on ignore because of a response on a thread that didn’t make sense. I tried to find the original comment and there was only a blank space. Took the person off.

I do have a few people on ignore. I don't want to see the endless stream of "name a song with the letter Q in the title" or "what is your favorite color of fruit" threads. I've also ignored a few that I feel are just trolling the boards, and one or three that just irritate me enough that I don't see a need to engage with them about anything ever.

I don't have to interact with everyone I 'meet' or 'talk' to on any message board, or in real life. That's not censorship; that's personal choice. IMO,
censorship would be me stopping you from meeting or talking to them by blacklisting them on the site from your page.
You should be reading those music threads. You can't afford to miss my educational and awesome music selections. And here's my musical Christmas present to the board.
