Spin-off American and Dutch/Belgian culture thread

I am okay with pickled, not a fan of raw.
But herring isn't really a national dish. Just something some people eat from time to time. It is not a staple in restaurants. If you want herring you get it at the market, maybe a fish monger.

We don't really have cuisine like the French, Italian, etc. got. We have some snacks and candy, but not something to open a restaurant with.

That is why if Epcot ever adds a new land, adding the Netherlands would not be a good idea. We also do not really have a style of music or entertainment that is particularly Dutch. (Except after this year everyone who is into Eurovision, knows our style 😂)

I think a Dutch pavilion would be cool. I may be biased given my Dutch heritage.

@Karin1984 , would you say dating in the Netherlands is different culturally than here in America?
I have never dated in America, so can't really tell you the difference. You would probably go out for drinks or coffee, go to the movies, go for dinner. Those are most common, I think. You meet probably in the same way, at work, common interests, via other friends.

Yeah, like wiki says, it's mainly snacks. Not really dishes for a full meal.

You would get a Dutch pavilion with snacks only, no real entertainment, and a probably gift shop filled with wooden shoes and windmills. Dont really have ideas for a ride. For a canal boat ride you need space, to mimick the scale of an Amsterdam canal house. Maybe something artsy, jumping in and out of paintings of Rembrandt, Vermeer etc. Our Golden Age was 5 centuries ago.

To be fair, a Dutch pavilion could be great even if it's not super grandiose. Snack/Quick Service would fit great there. A Dutch snack bar would be cool too.

By the way @Karin1984 , how much American history is taught in Dutch schools? Like is the colonial period glossed over or is New Amsterdam history studied at a reasonable level? I remember you once said John Paul Jones and his Dutch interaction in the American Revolution wasn't really mentioned in your school.

ESPN (Disney) also owns the Eredivisie tv rights in the USA, so WDW may be inclined to make a Dutch pavilion to help drive up ESPN plus subscriptions as a side benefit. 🤷‍♂️⚽🇳🇱

Not sure how it is taught nowadays, but when I was in junior high/highschool we didn't look into colonial history closely, we did have something about the slave trade, I think. Not sure if we also looked into what happened after the slaves ended up in the US. Don't think so. I am sure we had something about "we bought New York".

But I think that was it, regarding American history. Don't think we got anything about the American Revolution. Most I know about it comes from the tv show "North & South".
