Hello,

Thanks to some of the great advice on this forum I am wanting to do a Split Stay for our upcoming spring break trip. (3/27-4/5). Just a few questions that I couldn't really find or figure out by searching.

We will be splitting between BWI (3/27-4/1), and Contemporary (4/1-4/5).

I know that bell services will take care of our bags.. so no worries there.

My questions are:

1.) I read I can buy all 8 days of PH tickets for first reservation since that will give me the better price.

2.) We are planning on using DDP. I am assuming since we will have two reservations that DDP will need to be added to both. We arrive evening of 3/27, and will likely use a TS credit that day, but not anything else. How does this work with DDP credits. They expire on midnight of checkout day correct? :confused3

3.) If I get a new KTTW card at contemporary how will my park tickets be placed there, if I am buying 8 day tickets attached to my BWI reservation? Do I ask for them to be transferred over? I am assuming the new contemporary KTTW card will be the one we use for DDP for that part of our stay..

4.) Will we be able to use the pool at BWI on the day of checkout? This is a planned rest day for us so would want to be able to use their facilities for a few hours, head over to Contemporary, check in and then head to HDDR for dinner followed by a couple of hours in MK that evening.

Any clarification would be great! I am really excited about the possibility of seeing two resorts for our trip, and never would have even thought about it before joining here!:cool1:

Just went to price above trip and in order to add DDP to the contemporary part of our reservation it says I must have a package booked MYW with tickets?? Is this correct? So do I need to have separate park tickets (4 day PH tickets at BWI, and 5 day PH at contemporary)? Or is DDP not really advised in a split stay situation. I have run the numbers and DDP works for our family due to a large number of Character meals and TS, so don't really want to drop it.

Dining plans can only be added to a resort/ticket package. Most people either do the DDP for one of the splits or not at all to avoid braking up the tickets. To put it on both you'd need tickets on both reservations.

The tickets from your first reservation just stay on the same card. Just bring it with you and use as normal.

You can use the pool on check out day.

In order to add the dining plan to a resort reservation, you have to have at least 1-day park tickets attached to your package. Since it isn't cost-effective to buy two sets of tickets for one vacation, most people who do split stays and who also want a dining plan, buy tickets for their entire stay plus the dining plan with their first resort reservation. They then do room-only for their second reservation, utilize the park tickets they purchased with their first resort stay and pay OOP for their dining.

If you really want the dining plan with your second resort reservation, you can buy 1-day tickets and add the dining plan to the second resort package and then save those 1-day tickets for a future trip to WDW. This is only cost-effective, obviously, if you plan on returning to WDW someday. Just make sure you don't activate those 1-day tickets!

Yes, concierge at CR should be able to transfer your BWI park tickets onto your CR KTTW (or MagicBand possibly in March).

Yes, you can use the BWI amenities until midnight on the day of check-out. Just make sure, if you have MagicBands (and not KTTW cards) during your trip that you do not check-in to CR until you are absolutely done at BWI. I read a report of someone doing a split stay with MagicBands recently who went to check into their second resort early only to discover upon returning to the first resort to gather the rest of their stuff that their MagicBands no longer worked at the first resort.

Hope this all makes sense!

Yes, for two reservations with DDP, you need to purchase minimum tickets for each stay. Buy all the park days you need on your first reservation. For the second reservation, purchase minimum tickets. For paid dining, minimum is 1-day base tickets. For free dining, it's 2-day base tickets. Have the concierge at the second resort put the minimum tickets on separate KTTW cards that you can take home with you. Put them in an envelope and mark what they are, date, etc. If you don't do that, you must remember not to use them. You could choose to keep them on the KTTW cards and take them home with you, unused, as is.

If you are using Magic Bands in March, my specific answers might change a little. The MB program is new to all of us, at this point.

We have continued to use our first resort's KTTW cards for park entry. We used a Sharpie pen to label each one's card. I don't know if you can transfer them to the second resort's KTTW card. Remember, the second resort's card will have tickets on it until you pull them off. Can't have both sets on one card.

Unused WDW tickets are transferable and never expire. You can give them away, sell them, or use them on a future trip to upgrade from.

All dining credits for your entire reservation will be received when you check-in. Ask where to get your free drink mugs, I'm not sure. You can use your dining credits at will. But only by the amount of people on your reservation per meal. If you are 2 adults, 1 child, that's the max meals you can order at one time. You can order less, if you want to split a meal. You family can split up and purchase meals separately at different places in the same day.

You have dining credits for 5 nites on your first reservation, 4 nites on the second reservation. April 1st, your check-out/check-in day, you can still use your first resort's dining credits (if any) until midnight. You can also use your second resort's dining credits. You mention HDDR (2 credits) on April 1st. If you have leftover dining credits, you can't split a single 2-credit meal by using one credit from one resort and one credit from the other. But, one person could use 2 credits from the first resort. The other person could use 2 credits from the second resort.

You can use your first resort's facilities 'til midnight.

Hope this explains some of the nitty-gritty. Maybe sounds confusing now, but we always do split stays, as do many others. It's not a hassle, if you know the ground rules.

If possible, you could try to put the more expensive character meals into your first reservation and use the dining plan. Then, pay OOP for the second stay. And keep in mind a lot of disney resto portion sizes are pretty big, and you won't exactly want to carry around a doggy bag with leftovers. You may be able to get away with ordering less food than you think to make the OOP worth it.

One day disney tickets are pretty expensive when you have to buy multiple for everyone in the family. And keep in mind that if you try to upgrade and use them on your next trip, you once again will not be able to add the dining plan since you wouldn't be buying a package. It could turn into a never ending cycle of one day tickets! :rotfl:

Well.. Since I am now so overly excited about a split stay, I have decided to get rid of DDP and take the plunge, paying OOP. I know last time we had DxDp (youngest DS was under 3 then), and we ended up only "saving" $30.00. We will end up eating what we want, when we want it. I am sure it will be fine, and I can't WAIT!!:cool1: 190 days!:woohoo:
