Spiked chocolate covered cherries

So I decided to make something different this year for a Christmas party that we'll be going to. Spiked chocolate covered cherries. Recipe seems easy enough and calls for Whiskey as the alcohol to soak the cherries in. Just looking for ideas on other alcohols that I can use instead of the whiskey?

Would something like Kahlua or Baileys work? If you've made them before, please tell me how you made them.

Not anything sweet; it will be beyond cloying with all the sugar in the fondant. Kirsch is traditional.

Yeah I would say Kirsch or Vodka will do the trick. Baileys and Kahlua would be quite sweet and I'm no so sure about the flavour profile.

We make these regularly and soak in vodka. Empty the juice from the jar of cherries, fill with vodka. Soak overnight. Remove cherries and dip in chocolate then roll in sugar. Get the cherries with stems it will make it easier to dip in chocolate, also dry the cherries a bit with a paper towel or else the chocolate won’t stick well. I’ve tried other alcohol including whiskey, tequila, and baileys. I thought they were gross and stick to vodka, which would be my suggestion.

Edit: save the vodka cherry juice it makes a great drink!

Amaretto Disarrono is what I'll use in cherry pies if I go fancy b/c amaretto and cherry is a perfect combo. I imagine it would work great with a chocolate dip cherry, too.

Whiskey is probably the best option - maybe a smokey scotch.

This scotch is surprisingly good for the price. During the pandemic it was hard to get Lagavulin 16 and the 8 is terrible IMO. Then the price went up about $20 - well the euro was going down - so I stopped buying Lagavulin.
I feel this is pretty close and far less expensive. ($25!)
