So I was just reading someone else's thread, and saw that there are spiders on FJ and that they "spit" on you...can someone else go a little more into detail in regards to how much of the ride there are spiders, how realistic is it, etc....

I am ridiculously, hysterically afraid of spiders. I can't even go into It's Tough to Be a Bug at Disney, and even in the Shrek 3d show I pick my feet up because of that, and close my eyes until DBF tells me that part is over. I've never been on ROTM in Orlando, but the one in Hollywood makes it feel like the beetles are on your legs and I freaked out bad on that too.

I have been really excited to see WWOHP when we go in September...but is it like the 3d shows where they do things to make it feel like they are crawling on your legs or anything? I really wouldn't handle that very well at ALL....

TYVM for all your wonderful advice!!!

Yes, there are definitely spiders. Other than look creepy, all they do is spit with a light spray of water. Close your eyes after you pass the dragon until you hear the Whomping Willow I believe.

The spiders on FJ are there a plenty in one scene. They are the of varying sizes and are mostly acromantulas such as those featured in Prison of Azkaban so some of them are extremely large. The spitting is a water mist that comes from their pinchers. My friend is terrified of spiders and she about spazzed out but I yelled over to her to close her eyes and once they were closed she was fine until we passed that scene. The do not touch you persay but some are up close to you. If you close your eyes after the dragon and wait until you hear the whomping willow, you should be fine.

This is what they looked like when they were being created.

Right after the Dragon, you'll go into the Forbidden Forest and there you'll see Aragog. He doesn't move, but strobe lights go off above him, making him appear to move, and he spits at you. Then you move into a small room where Hermione starts talking to you (not sure why she's there) but some smaller spiders are seen coming down from the ceiling, and they don't move either. After Hermione, you'll go into a room where you are facing a cave wall, and you'll get spit on there too. Once you hear Hermione say "watch out for the whomping willow" then you're good.

Close your eyes and block your ears; I almost passed out just from hearing their not so little pinchers clicking.

You'll be fine. I'm a major arachnophobe and they only gave me a mild startle. The dementors were worse, IMO.

I had to close my eyes through most of the ride. Are they realistic? Well they're freaking giant! So not realistic, but what's realistic about a phobia? As others have said, after the dragon comes after you, you'll go "inside". Shut your eyes then.

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

Okay so I am definitely glad I came and asked this question and know where to close my eyes at!!!! Even the part in the movie got to me....hahaha even the spiders in the LEGO HARRY POTTER got to me!!!! Oy vay! lol

Thanks for all the advice everyone I really appreciate it!

^Also, just so you're not confused, the first time you actually see a dragon is in the first animated flying sequence. That's NOT when you should shut your eyes. He flies around you for a bit on a large screen, then your vehicle moves away from the screen and moves along a realistic set of a bridge. Then you'll see an animatronic dragon (not on a screen) stare right at you and blow smoke/steam/fog at you. THEN you move into the forbidden forest. So shut your eyes after a large real dragon is in your face. I just didn't want you to miss the fog effect with the dragon, it's one of the best effects in the ride.

Thanks to the OP for this thread!! I have had friends and family both ride FJ and they refuse to tell me anything about it as they don't want to spoil the ride for me. I would have completely freaked out if I had not know about this, so I am so glad I read all this!!! Thanks to all who posted on where and when to shut my eyes. :thumbsup2 As long as they don't touch me in anyway I will be fine. I am exactly as the OP states and really get scared by anything that replicates bugs of any kind touching me.

:rotfl2: My first ride the dragon fogged up my glasses so badly it was like I was in a fog for the rest of the ride.

Turned my head slightly the other 5 times so I could actually get a clear view of the rest of the ride after the dragon..:lmao:

Although it was as special effect in itself viewing the spiders and Whomping Willow etc through a blurry fog.

It's a bit startling when they spit on you. You won't see them but it might be disconcerting to feel that spray......

Thanks, I am sure it will be, but as long as I know it is coming I will be prepared and all should be fine. I am just so glad I know about this!!

I had seen the ads on TV for it, but didn't really know what all was in it.
It was an unbelievable experience and if you're a Potter nerd you will really appreciate it. I just wish you could experience the whole thing though.
I have a major rodent phobia due to a traumatic childhood incident so the movies with Scabbers I had to not watch a large part of. Then I just fought through it (sort of makes the story hard to follow if you can't watch that!) and it was bearable.

I have a friend with a spider phobia (BAD ONE) and she was bothered more by the small spiders in the movie than the very large ones.
Although looking at that picture someone so 'kindly' provided, maybe I should have been frightened myself...:) You don't really see that much detail as you're moving fairly quickly, or so it seems.
My travelmate who has only seen part of one movie and not read any of the books closed their eyes when they started getting motion sickness but said they didn't 'get' what it was about up to that point. It seemed to them that someone on drugs had created the ride. :rotfl2:
See what happens when you don't know anything about it? I guess spiders, whomping willows, quidditch, dragons and spiders let alone flying on a broom would make a non Potter person go hmmmmm:confused3

Also don't wear white while riding the ride. That spit is not just plain water and turned my white shirt a yellowish green where it hit and I never could get it out all the way. Fortunately for me I was wearing a cheap shirt and didn't mind sacrificing it for Harry Potter.

Oh wow, that is good to know. My DD bought a white Dobby shirt and was going to wear it on HP day. Not a good plan. Thanks:thumbsup2

I cover my face during the spider sequence (but always give a cheesy smile to the camera!) because the spiders always seem to spit IN MY EYE. The spiders themselves don't bother me.

Sit in the seat farthest to the left and the spiders don't spit on you as much. They are amazing...
