Probably just as well. Spiderman 3 was pretty horrible.

The news is a mixed bag for me. I'm a huge Sam Raimi fan, and I blame the mess that was Spiderman 3 on the studio, not Raimi. Sam didn't want Venom or the convoluted storylines, but with so much money invested, the studio pushed and got a trainwreck. I think Raimi could have fixed the franchise, but again it sounds like the studio didn't like his direction, so they've canned the project and decided to reboot.

I think it's great that Raimi is standing his ground, and won't get blamed for another horribe Spidey flick. At the same time, I'm pretty concerned at what Sony has in mind for a reboot. From the sound of it, it looks like they'll be looking towards the 'Ultimate Comics' version of Parker for the new Spiderman franchise. Done correctly it could be great, as Ultimate Spiderman has consistently been one of the best comics of the last decade. It all depends on the creative team behind the new flick

I think it's ridiculous. Wait a few years, and then try to rejuvenate it. Of course, I love Sam Raimi and I just have a bad feeling about anything that comes out so soon after the three. Personally, the only reason I saw the first one was because of Sam Raimi.

I don't think Sony Pictures has much of a choice. I believe Sony holds the film rights to Spiderman as long as they continue to develop movies every few years. If there is no development work, the rights revert back to Marvel. It's the same for Fox and the X-men franchise. That's why you'll see a continuos stream of X-men flicks in the coming years, whether good or bad.

I don't think any of those studios want to the film rights going back into the hands of Marvel/Disney.

... From what I've been reading, it sounds like the collapse of Spidey 4 may allow Raimi to begin development on a Warcraft project! That seems like a killer match

I agree. I think the same thing about Batman. I loved Dark Knight but it's enough already.
